Hi yea so i'm kinda just getting my feet wet with the whole modding scene, found step by step instructions on this site for Modding my Wii and burning the games off. I ordered and installed my Wiikey and also a Lg GDR-8162b. Used Rawdump to get my .iso files and Imageburn to burn it off. Worked just fine. My problem is I left rawdump running when I went to sleep and when I woke up the next day it was like my moniter was in sleep mode and wont bring windows back up. I cold booted and now when I go back into windows it will log in for like a minute or so and go back into that weird sleep mode and wont respond. I dont know if it is related to the drive I installed or the new programs I used to burn the games, it dosent make sense that they would be related but thats the only changes I have made to my pc in some time. Im not completly tech retarded but this one is beyond me, and any info would be greatly appreciated. oh my pc is a hp a820n, stock except for the video card if thats of any help.
thanks
Thats a very bizarre problem. It dosent sound like a software problem to me, it sounds like some kind of overheating or a short, just a guess but thats what comes to mind.
Try taking out the LG drive. I've seen faulty drives make a computer crash. Usually its an immediate crash but I suppose there could still be some kind of short in the drive causing the problem.
Have you tired booting into safe mode (F8) when booting the computer.
Try that and check your HD disc space. Make sure it isn't full. if it is try deleting some stuff then reboot. You could also try system restoring it to a previous date if you get into safe mode.
the problem is actually pretty simple. Sometimes leaving your computer on and running a huge process like rawdump can over heat either the processor or the RAM. The problem with your computer is that the processor overdid itself and is on the process of actually giving up. Meaning get a new processor. You partially fried it. This causes your system to stall at times and describes what you are actually going through right now. If your computer continues to run but you get no signal to your monitor its a memory issue meaning replace the sticks of memory you fried it.
Thats what happens when you try do dump games with a crappy computer though, seriously its time for an upgrade.
4 gig quad core processor and 8 gigs of ram would do any task. =). That what i have.
HP Pavilion a820n Desktop PC (Intel Pentium 4 Processor 540J (H-T), 512 MB RAM, 200 GB Hard Drive, Dbl Layer 16X DVD+/-RW/CR-RW Drive, CD-ROM Drive)
The 540J is 3.2GHz
RAM is a little cramped, but IMHO this should have worked. I admit that I haven't run rawdump on anything less than an AMD Phenom, with the exception of the RAM I would think this would've worked.
BTW, I always run rawdump in safe mode. Call me superstitious, but I get exception errors when I don't (run in safe mode) and I have 99% good rips when I do.
Thanks for the info guys, I know I'm way past time for a new system but when your a single dad on a budget you gotta nerd out with what you got. I'll start saving for a new box cuz it sounds like I would be a fool to spend money fixing this one since it isnt even powerful enough to do this. penguin98, larrylje, drakoniss, and dailun thank you.
Adding RAM would be realtively cheap, but if you think it's ready to conk out, just save for a new one.
If it's one of the HPs that uses standard form factor, I just upgraded one to a 2GB AMD X2 5600+ with 2GB RAM with a 450W PS for about $150.00 in parts (everything was on sale or rebate)
