How come most of these posts.. contain somthing like:

Dvdfab 5230 > fixvts > dvd shrink > imgburn.

First off. why do you need anything else then dvdfab???

Cause i had no trouble burning anything with dvdfab 5.2.3.0??

Why after dvdfab u need Fixvts? then dvdshrink?

doesnt dvdfab do the samething as dvd shrink but better? and i dont even know howt o use fixvts.. and isnt imgburn what dvdfab uses to burn the movie after it analizes and saves the imgs in a temp drive on yoru computer so you can start ripping it?

Hi,

dvdfab (as in platinum or gold) is a 1 button back up program. While dvdfab rips a disc to the hard drive, the rip is not always the cleanest (navigational pointers in the dvd structure may be misdirected and need to be corrected). Fixvts helps in this area (vob blanker, a more powerful tool, may be more useful to many)
So ripping the dvd to the hard drive first leaves the ability to utilize fixvts or vob blanker. Now with the data on the HDD, a meythod of transcoding is needed, so dvd shrink comes into play. Finally a burning engine is necessary, so the finest burning engine is employed, Imgburn.

A completely free method is employed in the following which follows the origional algorithm

From 1bonehead

1) decrypt to HDD with dvdfab HD (free version) Or use paid for version
2) process files (all) with fixvts
3) shrink files with dvd shrink, output as iso/image to HDD
4) burn iso/image file with IMgburn

all programs are free

Imgburn, free from
http://www.imgburn.com

fixvts, free from
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_...ools/fixvts.cfm

dvdfabHD free from
http://www.dvdfab.com

dvd shrink 3.2.0.15

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_.../dvd_shrink.cfm

and a guide to use all the programs

Dvdfab does not always give the cleanest rips, so we tend to use a few more steps.

Also, you can never go wrong with trying to get the best looking copy of your disk.

Fixvts is a tool that can 'tweak' the results a bit from dvdfab.

Dvd shrink may be old, but it's still one of the best transcoders out there. Others use dvd rebuilder, which does an even better job as it rebuilds the results from the ground up.

Dvdfab does have its own vso burn engine, but it's not the same as imgburn, which is one of the best burning engines out there, besides being free.

The only way to use all of dvdfab's abilities is either the trial verson or the full version. Some use the free version of dvdfab, so they cannot compress or burn their results.

You beat my reply Jo, only because I was on my mobile and not on my desktop or laptop!!

Dvdfab does not use imgburn, but does allow the option to use either imgburn or nero besides its vso engine.

Also, you can never have too many steps in trying to get the best results you can get.

No hard feeling, but wait until you know how to use VobBlanker, FixVTS, PgcEdit, DVD-Rebuilder Pro, etc.

DvdFab Hd Decrypter is the stripped down, free version of DvdFab Platinum. Meaning, if you have Platinum, you have the upgrade of Hd Decrypter.

As to your original question --which seems to be a popular one most recently -- many of the regulars here incorporate other steps in the process to achieve the best overall quality of our backups.

So all you do is.. just select a folder for a target file after you press start at the bottom.. then use that file with fixvts?

With most of my backups, i select a file and rip full disc to my HDD. I then process those files through VobBlanker or FixVts (VobBlanker more often here of late) then either transcode with Dvd Shrink or encode with Dvd Rebuilder and burn (after previewing to make sure i'm getting what i want) with Imgburn.
