What are the size of the one's that won't let you backup and what type of files are they (.avi, mpeg, .vob)?

What program are you trying to use to burn them to dvd's?

There doesn't seem like there should be any problem with burning these files, as data, to discs. They should simply copy. But, you're having problems, so, obviously, something's wrong, here.

The only thing I can think of, off-hand (and it shouldn't actually cause any problems, but...) is the possibility that they are set to Read Only. Right-click the file and choose Properties. If the Read Only box is ticked, un-tick it and click Apply, then OK.

If that doesn't do it, the only other thing I can think of (okay, yeah, that makes two things) is that it could be buried too deep in the file/folder structure. Windows has problems with accessing files with names that are too long and all of the folders that a file is in become part of that name. (For example: c:\My Stuff\Stuff I Downloaded\Downloaded Movies\Comedy Movies\Pee Wee's Big Adventure\Pee Wee's Big Adventure.AVI - as far as Windows is concerned, that's the entire name of that file). If this is the case, try moving the files to the Desktop. If you can't move the file, move the folder it's in to the Desktop, then go into it and move the file.

Beyond that...

Try a program called imgburn, it's free.
Let us know how you make out.

avi files can be converted to dvd (mpeg2) by dvd flick (free from aD here) and then the files can be conveeted and compressed if necessary to iso. Burn the iso files with Imgburn

dvd shrink (free from aD)

Imgburn free from http://www.imgburn.com
