you should searach for the thread since as Donaldo stated, its been asked and answered a million times, and more than likely you wont get any help since you cant do anything for yourself like spend 2 minutes and find the answer via searching.

Come talk with us on efnet at #elitemods !!! or just click ME

ALSO, DO NOT SEND ME MESSAGES ON LIVE REGARDING MODDING CONSOLES, OR HOW I PLAYED A CERTAIN GAME EARLY. I WILL NOT RESPOND. I WILL INSTEAD DELETE YOUR MESSAGE, AND BLOCK ALL COMMUNICATION FROM YOU. JUST SEND ME A PM ON HERE.

First question you need to ask yourself is what can a chip do compared to just flashing a drive,as far as i'm aware it would be a waste of money unless you were going to get out of region games,in which case it would be worth chipping,i am not aware of any other use for a chip as the 360's have better security so can't do what the old xboxes could, the next question is does this friend do soldering for a job, does he have the correct equipment including magnifiers (they're needed on the old xboxes i assume the solder points on 360 are just as tiny),if he solders every now again my advice take it to a professional unless you can afford another box.If however you are getting localised games flashing is the way to go

To get working copies of 360 games there are tuts here, hardware you need
Kreon Flashed External or Internal samsung dvd-rom reader.
Dual layer burner that has book typing capability lite-on or pioneer.
clone cd by slysoft or there's imgeburn(but have'nt tried it as clone cd sets layer break automatically)
xbox backup creator-Free
Verbatim DL DVD+R from Singapore

it's the point of clogging the front page with threads that are redundant. it's not about being a jerk.

if every single lame thread got answered... all of the good important ones could get burried and lost in the waste.

if people researched... there would be less threads but tons of info in each. think about it.

wow, second post and you already have people who will ignore any other question you ask here because you wanted to spout off with a smart mouth to someone who obviously holds the knowledge you need. Smart move.

My xbox 360 is flashed & i have been on live with the months free gold membership as well as using the silver to get updates & downloads, the only significant factor is i used original discs to update,if i were to continue with the gold i'd use original discs, however if i had a chip unless i was sure it could be turned off i'd get another 360 that would stay unmodded.Basicly from what i read on my travels BIOS can't be accessed or was it read after operating system software takes over so flashing is safer than chip ??

Prone to red ring of death ?,You'd need to do a search if chips caused this, personally i doubt it so long as soldering was done correctly as well as setup & chip is not faulty & is a good quality chip,my two old xboxes are chipped for two years now & dont skip a beat.

Scratched discs come from mishandling or jostling the 360 while the box is turned on or incorrectly refitting parts inside the dvd drive, perhaps when drive gets worn you'll get swirl marks on disc

thanks everyone for replying to my questions and sorry about asking a question that has been put on here thousands of times but honestly i have gone through many threads looking for an answer and found nothing there is hundreds of pages, i think i will risk getting it chipped im just really worried about what i got told about when its chipped xbox live cant be used if any one has any knowledge about this would be grateful, i just like the idea of buying games at a quarter of the price plus all new titles, all the best

Uh, considering, i could answer you question, it does concern me. You should really learn a bit of respect, you come here and you ask someone something, and when they give you an idea that you should have done when you registered here, you get mad. Read the rules, you said you did when you registered, so I don't see why you cant just be a normal person, and use the search box. It's there for a reason, and its not to look pretty.

Because my understanding is the only advantage a chip has is enabling to play games that are not of your region,i.e: if you own a PAL system a chip will let you play an American region game or Asian etc, where as flashing a drive only lets you play backups of your PAL region games only,so unless there's some other advantage a chip has that i'm not aware of then it'd be a waste of money otherwise i would've chipped mine, you'll have to do a bit more research in comparing the two & then decide which way is for you, only reason i did'nt chip is the 360 ain't as good for hacking & doing shit like the first xbox so to me it's strictly a gaming machine

my understanding was if i get it chipped i can buy copied games for £5 instead of £44 and i am sure there the same region, all my freind does is buys a game brand new then copies it and sells it to people who have chipped xbox's

Pfft...he downloads them and sells them to people with flashed drives.

I wish him the worst.

Even if he does actually buy the game.

Edit: Also, you don't have to "chip" the 360...just flash the drive to read backups.

You're not off to a good start are you ?. One of the reasons there are hundreds of pages (in the various forums) is due to people posting without searching (or searching properly) first.
Anyways, masses of info is what this place is about, let's please just try and fit in and cease with the unnecessary comments..

i reckon the guy who is doing ur 360 for you is just flashing it for you and not actually "chipping it" for you. it is easier for him to say that to you than try to explain to you what flashing is. also if you knew how easy it was to do you would probably do it urself and then he wont get paid ;) good luck!!!!!!!!

You don't want to get it chipped. What you want to do is to get your Xbox 360's DVD Drive flashed. Flashing means taking a firmware and changing it to a new one. The new firmware will be iXtreme 1.5. If you have a Hitachi drive then you will have to wait until the iXtreme 1.5 comes out which should be soon. You can still use iXtreme 1.4 if you have a Hitachi drive.

To find out what drive you have check here-
