So I bought a 360 on ebay that was supposed to have a controller sync issue. No mention of any other problems. I bought it "as is". It ended up being only about $33 US with shipping. Got it for parts and to screw around with. Well when I got the package and hooked up the box syncing was not an issue, it just stuck on the opening screen. Sooo I thought, what the hell, I'll create the RROD and send it in. How naive I was...at first! So I wrapped the xbox in saran wrap covering all holes and then put towels around it. I left it on for about 5 minutes and voila, RROD. And damn the box was warm. I called MS and little did I know they wanted the account info from the previous owner, I had no idea what the info was. I put up a bit of a stink and the guy ended up hanging up on me! He did not know the web address of the MS warranty agreement, when I asked for a supervisor he said no and hung up on me. I called back and was a bit ticked, got a very eager-to-please rep and he registered the console for me in my name and gave me a repair number! So my box is as good as in the mail. Anyone know if they actually do any checking once it arrives or once I am in the midst of the repair process am I good to go? Thanks. ---Chikn

all you have done is over heat it. so when its cooled it will be ok again with no rrod unless you have actualy damaged it. over heating is a temporary fix for the rrod

I have thought of that. But overheating is only a temporary fix, with mine it goes straight to the RROD. I am in the process of heating/freezer/heating repeatedly until it shits the bed for good. ---Chikn

Strange that the support rep treated you that way. I bought a RROD'd box from a customer of mine before I started doing repairs myself. He claimed that MS gave him the runaround. I wanted to check warranty status, so I registered the serial number to me and saw it was still covered. MS didn't ask me about original owners or anything, just treated it like it was mine and that's it, sent it in and then gave it to a buddy as a birthday/christmas present since I'd only spent $30 on it. Try logging in on the xbox xupport website and see if you can register the serial to yourself.

So after 2 days I have managed to create a consistent RROD. If anyone is close to RROD and wants to kill their box this might be interesting. Here's what I did:
I started by wrapping the box in saran wrap nice and tight, covering all holes. This caused it to overheat and shut down. Once it shut down I immediately started it up again and let it run. I did this a few times. While running nice and hot, I slapped the bottom and sides HARD, a few times. If the heat softens the solder, I figured I would try to slap it around and screw it up a bit more. I shut the box off and put it in the freezer, didn't let it cool down first. I did all of this several times. When I turned it on after cool down it would RROD, then if I shut it off and turned it on it would start O.K. but when it warmed up would RROD after a few minutes, not good enough for me!
Next step, fry this SOB. I opened a section of the saran wrap on the back of the box just enough to uncover 1 section of the exhaust fan. I let that sucker run. This caused it to run very hot but not overheat for better than an hour. If it did overheat I simply shut off and turned it back on immediately. I did this for the evening last night, let it cool down overnight and this morning it RROD every time I turned it on even at room temp. Success! ---Chikn

or you could just take the stick off put it on some wax paper, open the box but a fan on the cpu and cover it all back up that way it wont shut off and it will just fry itself. and that issue you had with ms has happened to thousands of ppl, the only thing you can do is call back like you did. you should be good to go!

Yeah, I wasn't sure how to open the box while keeping the sticker intact. ---Chikn

heat up the sticker with a hair dryer, dont burn it, but heat yit up pretty good then peel it off and stick it to wax paper. then when you are ready to put it back on just heat up the wax paper, peel it off, and stick it back on.
