I have used Ripbot264 to encode some troublesome HD .mkv files for the PS3 to play. I convert to AC3 audio and convert whatever video format it is to the AVC. I have since started using Ripbot264 to resize my videos to 1920 x 1080 on the 2 pass setting and output it to blu-ray format. This in turn will allow most blu-ray players to play the Dual Layer DVD's if needed.

My questions are: 1) Are there other programs out there that will convert to the blu-ray format when a video needs to be resized? 2) Are there any programs that will use a GPU rather than a CPU?

Thanks.

Hi Brian

If you are trying to convert your MKVs to mearly play on your PS3 you could do what I do. I simply use multiAVCHD. It will take your MKV, retain the DTS audio, change to 4.1, add borders, retain selectable subs, add/or keep chapter markers and create a PS3 compatible AVCHD folder. It'll even launch and load-up ImgBurn ready for you to simply insert a DVD and burn.

If you actually need to reduce the file size of your MKVs I can't help you. : )

Cheers

I use MKV2VOB and output as a .m2ts file. It does it all in a relatively quick process getting the videos to play on the PS3. Converts the DTS to AC3, video to a 4.1 Level, encodes the video if needed. Never had one come out that wouldn't play.

I'm using RipBot264 to encode the .m2ts files that i get out of MKV2VOB to the blu-ray output selection. I then have to open the properties on the video side and choose the RESIZE to 1929 x 1080 for the blu-ray player (Insignia?) to play it. It will support AVCHD format, but only in 1920 x 1080. Sometimes the resolutions are odd and fortunately the PS3 will play alot of stuff.

Hands down, the PS3 is the best Blu-Ray player on the market as far as being versatile.

I'm going to an Intel Platform with a 2.83 Ghn quad core. Should reduce my transcoding time in half or less.
