MP4 to what for converting and burning?

Hi al, The Elf is back with anothr newbie question.

My daughter downloaded and wants to burn te first season of Lost to DVD. She downloaded it as mp4 files.

What can we convert these to so they can be burned to a dvd? I use Win-Avi and it won't convert them to avi file format which is what I know how to use to convert to the dvd format. It gies me to options of avi, rm and wmv other than dvd.

HELP!!!!
