Alright, so this will be my first time getting a surround sound system, and I know absolutely nothing about how all of this works.
So, from the advice of a friend, I was looking at getting this: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-THX-Certi...32414652&sr=8-1 system. I don't need anything really good, since its just for my bedroom.
Anyways, I plan on getting my digital cable box, 360, wii, and ps3 set up with surround sound. This is where I'm not sure what I'm gonna be doing..
I was wondering if instead of hooking up each of the consoles to the system separately, would I be able to just use the digital output port in the back of my TV, and have that the only cable going to the surround sound system instead of switching each time I wanna change what I play? I asked some friends, and I've got mixed answers, some said that the sound quality wouldn't be as good, and others said that would work just fine.

What TV do you have?
If you get the right surround receiver you could do that. In your drawing swap the TV, and the surround.
If you give me the TV, and model I will check it out and let you know if it can be done your way.
I got an Olevia 242-S11.
From what I've read though from searching through various sites, it doesn't seem like I can? One of the places I read the the only TV's the really support it are the newer ones, and I bought that one last year during black friday.
Hopefully I'm wrong, though :P

Oops. Yes I did, sorry.
The spec's from that link show 2 HDMI, 2 component, and 2 composite inputs. It also shows an optical output (TosLink) for audio.
So if your components (PS3, WII, XBox, Cable) have some of these connections you can connect it the way you have drawn.
HMDI, and Component give the best resolution, as opposed to the Composite.
Run the audio out to the surround system using the optical connection.
