I've read threw the tutorials, and haven't seen anything that suggests that it is/isn't possible.
Is it possible to hook the Samsung MS25 drive up to my PC, get it recognized, and use it to clone/copy games? Rather than buying a Pioneer drive?

by pioneer drive, do you mean the samsung sh-162/3?
and yes, you can use the ms25, you will need to download the 0800 disc, that lets windows see the samsung drive. besides wxripper, that was the way it was being used before the 162/3 drives started coming out.

I read that a certain DVD drive with a custom firmware was required to read the original game discs correctly, but the rest of you post answers my question. Thank you very much, I will look into this shortly.

I've run the 0800 disc as the TextBook says, and Vista doesn't see the drive. No errors in device manager either. Is this possibly because I flashed the drive with ixtreme5?

you might not have done the sequence right, i am pretty sure you put the disc in the 360, wait like 10 seconds and then power on the pc. try that, i have vista and i have done it so just try that hopefully you have some luck.

Yes, that is the problem. The 0800 unlock was not added to any of the iXtreme firmwares. So that renders the 0800 disc useless. The 0800 disc only works with Xtreme 5.3 and older.
If you are going to use the Samsung drive only for ripping, then just flash the drive with the 0800 firmware. That way the drive is always ready to rip original discs.
The 0800 firmware is bundled in with some of the original Xtreme firmware. If you download Xtreme_Package-Toshiba_Samsung.rar, it's bundled in there as xtrm0800.bin
It's in Xbins in Xbox 360 --> Firmware --> Hacked Firmware --> Tosh-Sam ts h943 --> Old --> Xtreme_Package-Toshiba_Samsung.rar
I know this because I, too, use a Samsung ms25 for ripping games instead of a Kreon drive.

ah i wasnt aware of that. so it is the firmware. if he flashes to the 0800 firmware to rip games does that mean that will need to flash to 1.5 before those copies can be played? it would be a pain to have to flash to 0800 to rip a game and then reflash to ix1.5 to play and then reflash 0800 to rip something else.
oh and if it this easy to rip games using the 360 samsung drive why dont ppl just buy samsung360 drives for 50-60$ and flash them instead of buying kreons preflashed for around 80$ it seems to make more sense to get the samsungs. hell it would be even easier if u find an old 360 that doesnt work and the dvd drive is still good.

If the drive is used in the 360 to also play games, it could be a hassle, depending on how often he rips games. That's actually one of the cases which could make that Team Xecuter Blaster practical.
Another option is to flash back to Xtreme firmware, instead of iXtreme. Then the 0800 disc could be used, so there would be no need to flash back and forth. But of course, then he'd lose some of the extra stealth iXtreme offers.
As for why aren't the masses just using Samsungs, well, most simply don't know. Another reason is the connections for power and eject. Some may see it as messy having an open console laying around. The best option (and what I use) is a Connectivity Kit. I have Team Xecuters first version and it works perfect. I use it for powering and ejecting the drive when I rip discs and when I'm flashing drives, including the Lite On's.

Awesome, i would much rather do this than a kreon drive. mostly cause i know i can get access to a lot of broke 360 with good drives. Finding a Kreon is somewhat fishy to me since i avoid ebay and i do not like ordering from random sites. Thanks for the info dude.
oh and about the connectivity kit. it would also work to just get a molex to sata power adapter and run the drive from the VIA card also used to flash with, yes? but im guessing u already had the connectivity kit.

@ stealthdf... That wouldn't work. On the drive, the sata port is for data transfer, so connecting it to power via molex to sata adapter would probally damage it.
The drive uses a custom port for power and ejecting.

I flashed with the 0800 firmware, and Vista is still being a c*nt. Buttttt I had XP on another drive that works, and it recognized it! WOOOO! Thanks guys!
One more question, stealth patches aren't required to play burn games are they? Just for XBL detection?

That'll depend on what firmware you use. If it's iXtreme, it won't play without all the stealth info. That was one of the safeguards built in to iXtreme.
If you use the old Xtreme, you can get away with it.

Ok, I'll try that method then! Thanks!
