CFW and Emulators?

Hello,

I am sorry if this subject has been discussed ad nauseum on the forums, but currently I am travelling and have limited internet time to research :)

When I arrive home I am going to have my PSP (a slim and light) modded (or buy a pre-modded if it can't be modded). The company uses CFW 5.00 M33-4 as its standard, but will install previous versions if requested.

My question:

I want to tinker with emulators, specifically Dosbox interests me, but others could be fun too (SNES, Megadrive, etc). Does it matter what CFW I have in regards to running these emulators? Is the latest the best, or should I be using older CFW?

Are there any other requirements I should be aware of?
