I have a LG DVD player with USB that plays back AVI or Mpeg files. Right now I have not found a video I can't play back. But the manual says that it supports DivX 5.X and "6.X (playback only)" it also supports Xvid. DivX 7.0 has been released now and I'm concerned my DVD will be obsolete quickly.

So is there a way to convert a DivX 7.0 encoded video back to a DivX 5.0 version?

Also, I've wondered about changing a DivX 7.0 video to Xvid, perhaps that would be a solution? I downloaded some software but I've forgotten the name

But first I would like to know where I can find a sample DivX 7.0 file in .AVI to test (DivX site uses MKV). It might be possible that the DVD player can support 7.0, but that 7.0 wasn't released at the time the DVD Manual was written.

Thanks.
Lorna

I forgot to mention I'm using Gspot to find out DIVX versions, but I haven't found a video that says version 7.0 yet. It would be nice if that could be determined before I download the movie.

The best bet is if you download and install the divx bundle
yourself. Then use virtualdub to reencode a short clip
and test it in your machine.

Thank you,
I'm concerned about putting a new divX version (7.0) on my sys because I've read that it is quite difficult to get the new DIVx Codec off my system if it turns out that V7.0 won't work.

Is my concern warranted?

I'll download that software and give it a try, but probably try to take a DIVx V6.X and convert it to V5.X. I hope it doesn't take a long time to do the conversion, because I bought the DVD player to avoid having to fuss with all the converting.

Still wish someone knew of an existing DivX Version 7.0 avi file.

It's difficult to rely on others to furnish a particular
sample like this. You might get lucky, but who knows?

You should be able to use system restore to return your sys
to the way it was - something like this:
Confirm your existing Divx bundle release and that you have the
installation exe.
Set a restore point.
uninstall divx, reboot and install divx 7.
run your test and create your file.
Uninstall divx 7. Reboot and install old divx version.
Use system restore to restore to above restore point.
