Like many people, I am having a hell of a time trying to get the key from my Liteon. Here's my setup:

Windows XP Pro 32-bit
CK3 Lite (serial) with Probe
Onboard nforce SATA (also have a VIA card, but had issues)

First of all I tried to use Jungleflasher using the Executer tutorial and my VIA card. With the VIA card, everytime I would even turn on the CK3, the computer would immediately freeze. So there wasn't even an opportunity to power cycle (I tried doing the powercycle in BIOS before booting into windows and still had the issue). Oh and I do have Portio32 installed and it shows up in the Hardware Manager. So I removed my VIA card and hooked up to my nforce SATA. I immediately found my Liteon Drive and it found my Serial Card on COM4. I do get a weird error when starting up the Jungleflasher program:

Windows - Drive Not Ready
Exception Processing Message c00000a3 Parameters 75b6bf7c

I did some research on this error and people are saying that it has to do with a Windows Update, but they don't know exactly what is causing it. Anyway, I hit continue and the error closes and goes into JungleFlasher. I find my Liteon Drive and I find my Serial Card. I made sure that the CK3 is not in Mode B and I do a quick power cycle (Eject drive, turn off CK3, push drive in half way, Turn on CK3). I push the CK3 probe into the second dot from the left (I believe this is the right one according to the pictures) and the light on the CK3 probe turns green. I hold it in (and I also push it so that the needle retracts all the way. I'm not sure if that's what I'm supposed to do, or if the needle just needs to be touching.) and I click the "Get Key" button in Jungleflasher. It looks like it's doing something and then it pops up with a box that says "key does not look good". Then I end up with all 00000000000's. I've tried this probably 20 times with the same result. I've tried pushing the tray in farther on my power cycle, and pushing it in less. I get the same thing. I've tried doing the power cycle in DOS and then turning the CK3 back on when I get into windows, but the computer freezes in Jungleflasher.

So I've determined that it's probably just some random bug in Jungleflasher between a combination of a crappy program and my computer hardware. So I would like to try flashing in DosFlash32 1.7 and I need a little clarification about the instructions. Here's what I've found as far as a tutorial is concerned:

Geremia's DvdKey method with DosFlash32 with the PC's psu
-----------------------------------------------------------
- disable CD-ROM boot option in BIOS
- connect LiteOn to your PC's power supply unit and SATA port
- power up PC, wait until bootup is finished
- eject tray of the LiteOn and shutdown PC completely
- push the LiteOn tray half in
- power up PC and boot into Windows
- run DosFlash32
- if you read the following:
MTK Vendor Intro failed on port 0x????.
If you choose to resend the command you should turn the drive off and on
after you pressed "Yes".
Do you want to resend the command until the drive responds?
- press 'No'
- choose "LiteOn DvdKey" as flashing task
- choose the COM port number
- press on "LiteOn DvdKey" button
- enter the names of inquiry.bin, identify.bin, key.bin and dummy.bin output files
- if you read the following:
To receive the drive key use Geremia's DvdKey method like follows:
- Connect your drive with a serial cable to the COM port
- Eject drive tray
- Power off drive
- Push drive tray in until it is half open
- Power on drive
- Press "Yes" if you are ready
Are you ready?
- simply press 'Yes' without doing anything of the above, because we
already did that before
- after this DosFlash32 displays your DVD-Key and saves your key and identify data

I'm not really sure where my CK3 fits into this tutorial. I'm assuming that when it tells me to hook my drive into my SATA and my Power, that I am supposed to be hooking it into the CK3. Then it doesn't really talk about using the probe. The CK3 and Probe are connected to my Serial Port, so I'm assuming that I'm supposed to touch the probe to the TX dot before I push the "LiteOn DvdKey" button. Then it says to enter the names of the bin files. Do I need to manually enter the names of the files (or will it produce them automatically and I just need to accept them)? Ok, so assuming that we can get the answers to these questions and I have my key, what do I need to do now? I'm not sure if the erase and write instructions are the same as they would be for a BenQ or if there is something unique for the Liteon. I've never actually used Dosflash32 to flash a drive before. I've done several different Hitachi's and I've read the tutorials about BenQ's and Sammy's, but I've never actually done one.

Anyway, this is my situation and I would appreciate any input. I read some of the posts in this forum and you guys seem to have worked out some of the kinks. :)

I don't have any extra cash to buy a JumpDrive right now. The CK3 and Probe seriously tapped me out. I know a JumpDrive is only like $10, but I seriously don't have it (taxes really screwed me over this year). So I'm trying to do it with the equipment that I have.

had the 'exact' same issues, I know what you are going thru m8, frustration!

I found a better noobs guide on xecuters website, let me check it out and get the link to you. it worked first time. http://dwl.xbox-scene.com/iriez/N00B_LiteOn_Flash_with_VIA.pdf

I basically installed my VIA pci card, which I bought to do this task, and installed it as any other card I have purchased, ie installed the drivers etc, which is NOT CORRECT!, follow this guide, and you will have the success you are looking for. Also download from the same website [ iXtreme 1.5 & Jungle Flasher 0.26 BETA ] and [ CK3 PRO USB Drivers ]

I was trying to run the CK3 off of my pc from a power connector [molex], and when I power-cycled the CK3 WHICH YOU MUST DO!, my computer just shutdown, which I had a feeling it would do, but the guide I read said do it, so...., I eventually got around this by connecting the CK3 to an external hard drive caddy, so... the setup was, lite-on drive was connected to pc via sata data cable ONLY, power was provided by the CK3 which was connected to my external hard drive caddy molex power connector NOT PC!, CK3 was connected to my pc via USB, used the probe to goto correct pinhole on dvd drive circuit board... and worked first time... and second... ;-) hope this helps you out!

J

try, try and try again!, or is it search, search, and search again?, combine the both, youll get there ;-)

I actually ended up getting it working a different way (and I messed it up and fixed it). I was finally able to get my key by using Dosflash32 and following the tutorial that I posted at the top. I pretty much just followed my own suggestions. If anyone is curious, when you open and it says that it can't find the MTK vendor info, hit NO. Don't even mess around with trying to make it find it. Initially the drive is locked and will not respond to queries. Then find your SATA port (it will show the name of the drive at the bottom when you find the right one). Now select the Liteon Read option from the drop down menu and insert your probe into the correct TX spot. Now click the Get Key button and you should have your key. Oh, and it was very very important to do the power cycle during the boot up like it says. If you try to do the power cycle while in Windows like Dosflash32 asks you to, you will probably freeze. If you do it during the bootup, then you have no issues. So if it pops up and asks you to power cycle while in Dosflash32, just accept because you've already done this before you started the program.

Now I made a mistake. I took my key and went back into Jungleflasher and followed the Executer tutorial to make my firmware. I got all the way to the point where I had erased the drive and was starting to write and the computer froze. Of course I freaked out for a minute because the drive was dead. Then I did some more research and found that this was a fairly common problem. I had all the essential pieces for building the firmware through Dosflash. So I used the firmware tool to carefully build my firmware again (in case Jungleflasher messed that up to) and everything looked good. Then I borrowed my buddy's USB drive and formated it with Iprep. I loaded my firmware and L-O-eras file into the root. Then I booted off of the USB stick, used the L-O-eras (+ port #) command, was given F80 status, so I did the command again and got F72 status. Then I powered off the drive, powered it back on and typed dosflash. It gave me a list of all my ports. My drive was not actually detected in this list, but the port was listed, so I selected it. I hit W to write and it asked me to list the firmware that I wanted to write. I entered lite_cfw.bin which was my firmware that I made in the firmware tool earlier. It went through reading all the banks and then writing all the banks and was done. I tested the drive and it worked first try.

I guess my method was a little unconventional but it worked. I found out later that there was a way to actually make Dosflash32 do the writing as well. I think that I'll just use DOS to do the whole process in the future. Thanks for all the input!!! :)

Freezing with the via card because you needed to delete the viamraid file in your= system 32 Folder, then go to drivers folder and then find it and delete it it will keep windows from automatically reinstalling it. follow up with uninstalling your via driver in the device manager and then restart go back to device manager and there should be a yellow ? Mark. BAM no more FREEZING JUNGLEFLASHER IS THE ISH!! Recommend it over DOS and iprep thats Oldschool MAnG, just install your STUFF right!!! NOOBS tut is the best for any FREEZING ISSUES With Windows.

Oh believe me, I tried that first thing. I even tried it with just my nforce (which shouldn't freeze at all) and it still messed up. There is probably some little conflict between hardware/software in my PC that is causing it.

It seems like it would be very simple. If the program responded the way that it was supposed to, then it would be awesome. Maybe the final release will address some of these issues. It is still beta...
