Okay, I need/want a new DVD player that is ultraslim and stands vertical. Only the PS2 meets these specs!

THREE QUESTIONS:

1)IS THE PS2 SLIM A GOOD DVD PLAYER WITH THE UPGRADED COMPONENT CABLES? (People say it's not that good, but how many actually use the component cable with it?)

2) It has IR built in. DOES ANY STANDARD SONY OR UNIVERSAL REMOTE WORK OR ONLY THE LAME PS2 REMOTES?

3) Can you turn off/on the new PS2's with the remote?

Thanks!

From what I understand yes you can use a Universal remote, but from the 30 seconds I spent googling the topic you can't turn on/off the PS2 with a universal remote. Though I did see a madcatz ps2 remote that claimed it would power on/off the PS2 so perhaps I am mistaken.

As far as the PS2 being a good DVD player...it was back in 2000, now there's no reason to get one for it's movie features. All major electronics companies are offering DVD players that are a 1/3 of the thickness but also capable of upconverting. Honestly, I think you'd be better off rearranging your entertainment set up so you could lay down a $50 ultra-thin DVD player.

Yeah, I think it can be turned on/off with a remote now.

I do NOT care about upconverting--that's a gimmick because all TV's must upconvert to their native resolution. My TV chip-set does an excellent job of it.

NOT fond of the "stack of boxes" look under a TV, and no room for it. So VERTICAL standing is sooo appealing. There's nothing else (except PS3) that sits vertical. PS2 is smaller than any DVD player and will fit anyplace.

Guess the question is, anyone feel that the PS2 (using the optional component cables) is equal to other DVD players on the market?

hello All,

I am new to gaming and have never played any games apart from contra and mario on PC. I got a PS2 slim as a gift with couple of games.

Is it possible to burn games without using a mod chip?

Can i connect the PS2 to my DVD home theatre?
