Hi i'm sorry to ask this question cos it may have pretty obvious answer but ive been looking around forums and can't find the answer...

The question i hope someone out there can answer is i currently have virgin+ set top box downstairs & i've connected a splitter so i can watch cable tv upstairs on my old ntl samsung set top box!

However on the samsung box i only get about 8 channels...

I would really appreciate it if someone could advise me what i need to get more channels upstairs, i already get sky sports, setanta downstairs so what would i need to get these upstairs!

Would buying a eurovox box and swapping that with the samsung box give me more channels? If so could you advise me on what sort of eurovox box etc & what needs to be done?or is it just simple case of swapping boxes???

do i have to keep updating it? i have no idea how to do this if needed!

Hope someone can help me out
Thanks

Just get yourself a nice sleek looking box, like the Eurovox Max EX1000 SL and take out your samsung, you will get the lot that VM carry, and I mean the lot okay. You will get all the support you need when you do that and come back here for help/advice, in the meantime have a look at it >>

http://www.skywonder.co.uk/product.php?p...05&cat=1&page=1

Then have a look here at HiTeck's guide on what you need and how to >>>

Thanks again

Wouldn't believe how long i've spent looking around & googling for answer to the set top box question etc....

Thank god i found these forums lol and helpful member like yourself!

Was reading different threads on other websites and people were talking about funcards(?) and stuff like that that had to go into set top boxes & looked all to complicated and expensive!
I take it that has nothing to do with what im buying?

It will only come with FTA firmware on, so yes you will have to update it as shown at the link I have provided, so maybe it might be a good idea to search the site (Skywonder) and see if the supply the NULL MODEM leads. You can get one at Maplins, but Fleabay is much much cheaper.

That's correct, it does :) so you will bo okay, just a small point, it would be very wise if you could get to/or the loan of a PC with OS XP that has the correct 9 pin serial port, most oder type laptops and PCs do have this, the newer models don't, it will save you time and headache if you have got that setup to use okay.

Yep. that is exactly what it is, posted boringly over and over again by someone who it would appear is also looking for people to pass on (That is to be polite) unworking boxes to him/her for repair, rather than throw away - still not answered whether this is a FREE service being offered!!!!!!! - go peddle it elsewhere for god's sake.

i'm guessing yes except you'd plug the set top box into your tv with a HDMI cable rather than scart!!

Might look into getting one myself in the future but at the moment theres only BBC HD available thru v*** and i'm not a big enough fan of doctor who to warrant getting a HD box just for that lol

lol.. yeah good point. I was just wondering, because for the sport and thing's it'd be a good idea.. I'm new to this thing, 've just recently bought a house and looking into various options as regarding TV. I have a friend who has a box think its a starview. but he doens't know a great deal about them apart from the fact it works. So i was wondering if i would need to get a deal from VM that included TV and Broadband to get the benefits of using a box or whether i only needed broadband? which would basically give a live feed into the house which would be enough? i have read so many threads on this site lol and tried to peice together various info, but i don't really understand much.

Broadband alone would do you if that is all you want.
