I've been reading up on flashing firmware and I want to give it a try. I have no XBox 360s, but I have 2 friends with them. One friend has the BenQ drive and the other has one of the Hitachi drives.

My friend with the BenQ drive wants to try flashing it. After reading some tutorials, I noticed that you need a VIA or nForce SATA card. I currently do not have a card that meet these requirements, but my friend does have a custom built computer with a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R motherboard. The motherboard has 8 SATA ports. The southbridge chipset is Intel ICH10R, and the northbridge is Intel P45.

If I hooked up the BenQ drive to the GIGABYTE motherboard's SATA ports, could I successfully flash the BenQ DVD drive?
If not, what is the worse that could happen? If the BenQ drive doesn't successfully flash, is there any chance that I could brick it? I am willing to give it a try as long as I know the drive will be fine if it doesn't flash correctly.
