I know everyone here goes to Best Buy every now and then right? Have you ever noticed that distinctive smell that place has? Something about it just makes me want to buy something. I LOVE that smell. I wonder what it is. I bet they are putting something in the a/c units that gets into peoples system and makes them want to purchase goods.

Any thoughts?

Yes. Lay off the drugs. ;)

I don't know if it's a smell, but it's certainly hard to walk in that store and not walk out with something. I went in the other day for a $20.00 cd (came with a video, documentary, etc.) and left with $80.00 worth of stuff i didn't necessarily need. Sad thing is; that's not the first time that phenomenon has occurred. ;)

Wrong! The nearest Best Buy, is 80 miles from me, and I haven't been in the store in 4 years.

It smells like a dirty gym locker to me....like a bunch of sweaty salesmen walking around everywhere. I have no problem walking out empty handed and usually do, to simply go home and browse NewEgg for whatever it is I was looking for...only cheaper.

Circuit City was having it's 10-30% off liquidation sale this weekend and it was a mad house. I don't understand why these people are rushing in to get things for 10%, when they could wait a week or two and they'd be 30-50% off. They had bumped TV's down to 15% off, but just about everything else that I saw was only 10% off.

That's the psychological stuff stores/restaurants etc. do to get you to spend $$. I would be very surprised if Best Buy did not do some form of it.

I go to Best Buy fairly often but I hate shopping big time so I'm pretty much in and out - I know what I want and just go in and buy it. Can't say I've ever noticed a great smell. Then again I haven't noticed the sweaty men smell either. Are you sure locoeng that it isn't oh never mind :D

Circuit City's liquidation sales are outright lies. I went this past weekend and as you mentioned the majority of the items were at a 10% discount but the prices were inflated. I saw an HP printer for 79.99 plus 10% off at Circuit City which I thought was high at that price. Same model at Best Buy was for 69.99. Even after the discount it was two expensive. They are just inflating their prices and then "discounting" them to make a little profit

Yeah the sale is bs but most going out of business sales are. The liquidators they hire have their own marketing plan that they follow to and get rid of the stock.
Just like CompUSA - even a few days b/4 the doors were to shut forever the sales were still bogus. Now that place was starting to smell.

That's true, I noticed that about CompUSA as well. Then again any retailer out there has been guilty of price gouging on one occasion or another. Like the same day i went to Best Buy, the reason I ended up in there was because I saw on their site a sale price for Trend Micro Internet Security 2009 for three computers for 29.99. Not a bad deal, right? Well I read the add over and over and the only thing that caught my eye was "Purchase online and pick up at store." Hold that thought on this. I got to the sotre picked up two copies and what do yoou know? I was charged 100 plus tax. I told the guy what the ad said. He then said the item needed to be purchased online, then picked up in the store. I explained it was not a requirement, just what they suggested. To shut him up and his manager (the cashier that is) I pulled out a printed copy of their page online, noticed no mention of that requirement and then made them go online to prove me wrong. Funny how some other "geeks" near me went back and got some copies of their own once I showed them the website. There in plane site was the advertisement with no said requirement. Now the price is back to 49.99. They felt stupid since they were called out on their mistake. I left the store with two other guys buying the same thing. Nowadays I can't trust any retailer anymore, they are too seedy and shady sometimes.

So true.
Some customers in your situation would have just said forget it and paid the price or just left w/o any merchandise.

Oh Binkie the horror stories of the Best Buy in Dobbin Center, One of my assistants worked there for a while in "Customer Abuse" (Returns) and their policy was just say no. I hated that place with a passion, used to go to BJ's Wholesale club instead for any similar items or order online instead.

Oh yeah their customer service there sucked! Customer abuse - you aptly named it!
But they moved a little over a year ago with improved cs. Right off 108 I think it is - huge new shopping center at the corner of 108 & 175 right before 95 (or after I guess depending on which was you are going :).

My sister told me about that place, Used to be a great forest, farm-pick your own flower garden area, the name escapes me now, I lived in the apartments that are located behind there, Sherwood Crossing, It used to be so quiet along 108 20 years ago, sigh, how times have changed. I feel your pain Binkie.

There are scents that would be more attractive to men than women, so maybe men are their target market, and females wouldn't notice the smell! :)

You mean you have NO SENSE and lost it years ago... hehehe. :P

Dragula and all the smell is NOTHING special it's just the odor of plastic burning at the hands of the consumer... lol. If that smell turns you on then so be it... but I'm very much like LOCO and binks..... I don't have to buy a dang thing at BB and normally don't!! :P

I've taken printed ads in many times as well. NEVER had an issue of someone (retailer) NOT honoring it. :)

I'll buy their Verbs if they are one sale, but that is usually the bulk of it.

Zo good for you.. Hope it was something that met your needs. ;)

We could go on for a while politically but I'm sure a MOD would stop us... :P So........... the economy is screwed up because of bad decisions..... NOT from the executive branch..... and the American people are gonna suffer NOT only monetarily but politically as well. Let's just hope the "present administration" doesn't FUBAR the situation any further. :)

That is good news ZoSoIV!! I'm happy for you!

And oh yes the smart girl mod :D is going to step in and put a kabosh to the political aspect. Off topic a bit in the safety value - okey dokey - but no off topic political stuff.

I need to get my butt over to Circuit City and see if they have anything I want. Ole hubby went over the weekend w/o telling me - I wonder why :D

Circuit City can keep their junk. I've never been happy with their stores nor their rebates, only slightly less appealing than Comp USA in general.
