Its not necessary to downgrade the wii, and I would advise against it since theres someone on here several times a week who managed to seriously screw up their wii by trying to downgrade.

Anyway, what you need is IOS16. Google for the file "IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad" It can still be installed even on firmware 3.4 and will unlock all homebrew.

Once you've installed that file it will unlock the downgrader and the wad installer too, so then theres no need to downgrade.

While I cant five you a direct link the download of IOS16 I found came with a custom wad installer. As far as I know, only that custom wad installer will work to install IOS16 on a wii that requires it.

If the custom wad manager runs, you need ios 257. Run homebrew and run the custom 1.3 manager to install ios 257. If it doesn't install, you probably have a bad wad. This file is everywhere on torrents. Go to mininova.org and download it. Then you run the ios downgrader, then install ciosV7. Then install wii gator wad.

i know that you cant install wads on 3.4 but should i be getting past this part to where the wad fails to install cause i have run wad manager dozens of times and get the same message everytime.

Install using wad manager 1.3. If you got the right one, the 257 should install. I've done 4 systems with no problems.

Where did you get your wad files? How is your SD card formatted? Downgrading is stupid. You will be unable to play newer games unless they are patched and games that are written with the 3.4 firmware won't work.

Did you do these steps?

1) Install Homebrew
2) Install IOS 257....(you get an error here?)
3) run IOS downgrader
4) install CIOSv7

Honestly, this is the easiest hack in the world. I've been making $50 a shot from people at work.

the hack would be a piece of cake if my wii would read my sd card but it wont.i had no trouble installing hbc but when i run a program on hbc and press a to read sd card i get the same error everytime.it wont even bring up what wads are on the card so i cant install ios 257 if it wont read the card.im borrowing a card off a friend who used it to hack is wii hopefully i will have more success.would it make any difference if i removed hbc and installed it again and then tried to install ios 257?

That may be what you need to do. No, there is no sense in reinstalling homebrew.

After ios 257 is installed, you have to run the ios downgrader, then install ciosv7 or you won't be able to play backups. Here's what I do:

1) Install Homebrew
2) Use Custom Manager 1.3 to install ios 257
3) Use custom Manager 1.3 to install CIOS_Fix wad
4) Ran IOS downgrader to install all necessary IOS files
5) Install CIOS V7
6) Run Custom Manager 1.3 to install Wii Gator WAD

I have modded 5 wii's with this method with no problems and total time involved was like 10 minutes. This will work for you if you have the files.

i've did almost all of that, but i can't downgrade, would i have to upgrade, i'm using 3.1u, with the twilight hack, but i can't get any of the mplayers or gc backup launcher or wiigator to load,my backup launchers gives me a temporary green screen of death, them revert back to the start up screen, when i run rungbackup and the other program,i get the error can't find Ios 257,this was after i installed
the Ios 249.

i've backed up all my disk, all of my wii disk work prefectly, but my movies and my backed up GC games will not remotely boot.

i had no problems with the twilight hack or the wads or anything, but the Mplayer and the GC backup launchers has me crazy after 2 weeks.
