Ive downloaded Homebrew.ISO from http://hbc.hackmii.com/download/ and tried loading it onto my JAP Wii (CHIP unknown).. The disc doesn't do anything, nothing loads. AS said I am unaware as to what my chip is so I do not know which updates etc to get.. All I require is to unlock the region restriction so I can play NTSC & PAL as I went and bought Wii Family Trainer today but now unable to play it.
Its frustrating reading people saying how easy it is to do these sort of things but when your a complete NOOb it is actually hard so if someone can shed some light it would be much appreciated!
I have no idea which chip or firmware thats installed in my JAP Wii, all I know its deffo modded as it plays BACKUP games.. ANy ideas on how I can check them out?
All I want to do is play any region games without this hassle..
Little kid here kicking himself cause he cant play the family trainer...
Well, the only way to see what modchip you have is to open the console up and look at it. If you can get a picture of it someone on here can tell you how to turn on region override.
We might be able to make an educated guess though. If you go here and enter your wii's serial number it will tell you what chipset you have. If you have DMS, D2A or D2B then theres a very good chance you have a wiikey installed. A wiikey is one of the easiest modchips to turn the region override on with, just run the config disk. Some other chips require soldering a jumper on the chip to enable playing out of region games.
Failing that the only option you have is to get a japanese copy of zelda twilight princess (a backup is ok) and install the homebrew channel through the twilight hack. Once the HBC is installed you can boot any region games using gecko OS.
Do keep in mind though the possibility of region bricking the wii. If you let an out of region game run an update you risk causing problems. Anywhere from duplicating the news and weather channels to completely disabling the console's online functions and making it impossible to access the wii settings menu.
Gecko OS automatically blocks updates from disks, some chips support blocking disk updates as well, but the feature generally needs to be activated manually.
Yeah I have had a look at that link but thats where I get lost, tried burning various Configs, updates etc but it draws a blank when I insert them into the Wii..
Do you use MSN? If so, Give me your address and I will add you bud.
