8.5 gig mkv to DVD-DL please help

Please iam going crazy here, but does anybody know how to re encode a MKV file which is to big to go on a dual layer, i need it just a bit smaller to fit on a daul layer dvd ive tried;

MKVtoVOB
GOTSent

all re code but never to fit on a daul layer i must be doing something wrong.
