Ok, I know there are 2 million of these questions everywhere, but so far I have not found one that fits my circumstances. First off, I do not have a router. I use a Ambit 60678EU. I have very little technical knowledge, but from what I can tell I dont have to bother with the port forwarding. I have completely turned off Windows Firewall, so nothing there. With Azureus, I very rarely get speeds above 20kb/s but on average it hovers around 1-3 kb/s. This is extremely annoying, when I download straight from the internet I get speeds much closer to 1mb/s. Most of the torrents I am trying to dl have a seed to peer ratio or around 1/2 or 1/3. I have a DL limit of 4 torrents at once, speed unlimited, and my upload speed is set at 40 kb/s, but it seems to suffer from the same problem my DL rate does, and at most has a total upload rate of 20ish kb/s, individually hovering around 1-3 kb/s. Any suggestions or am I missing something really obvious?
Check for your ISP here in case it throttle's torrent's or what is it, maybe someone know's: http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_ISPs Disable UPnP at tools>options>plugins>UPnP Use a port over 50,000 and stick to downloading 1 torrent at a time, you can disable DHT if you use private site's.
Do turn off your fire wall! The media mafia has stopped litigation but are spending their efforts on changing laws and funding P2P attack engines.
How are you upload speeds???
Comcast, my ISP can bite down almost that hard but doesn't care much about uploads. I do not know if all ISPs only throttle DLs. I suspect you are being attacked from unfriendlies of unknow origins. They normally plug up your router some how. They have plugged up something. Try cycling your Ambit 60678EU and rebooting your computer. Does that help even for a short while.
If none of that works move to bit torrent or utorrent. The attack engines really wail on the frog and a little less for bit commet. Even though that frog is plenty fast, 30 attack engins beating on it might slow it down. They don't get that excited over the slower clients. If you are lucky you might see 100 kb. That is far better than single digits. Another thing to try is only DL on off hrs. If your main problem is your ISPs they will probably back off some if you do.
Thanks for the advice. I switched over to BitTorrent and though ive only been using it for about 5 minutes, there seems to be a vast improvement. I have no idea why that is, but its working. I have Time Warner Cable as my provider. How is it that they can block or slow access for certain programs like Azureus?
They can do anthing they want. That wasn't the case a year ago. You could fight them then. Now, they have too many effective tricks. They can shut you down if they want. They allow you to exist because they want your money.
If you want to experiment, try running BT then start up Azureus. Azureus will do better than BT. BT will go down to 0 when Azureus will still work. Azureus just draws more fire. They must view BT as weak and not much of a threat so they leave you more alone. I would opt to limit my down loads and do it off hrs instead of having others throttle you. By 'playing ball' you will be allowed to stay in the game longer than if you you don't. Everyone is looking at the top offenders. It is best not to stay in that catigory long.

I would also prioritise what I was down loading. Last year was the year of the torrents. That was the peak year for torrent traffic. I doubt that this will do half as much. Every month a new country makes P2P patently illegal. I doubt that there will be many countries allowing P2P by the end of 2010.
