Hi,
I had my xbox 360's dvd drive flashed about 12 months ago, but they didn't give me the original firmware or drive key. Now i need the the original key because i did a flash that went bad. Is it general practice for people or shops that provide these services to keep backups of people drives they flash? What's the likelihood of them having my key still? If i can't get it what are my options?

huh? why ask a forum? why not just ask the modder? regardless, I personally keep every consoles key, ofw and cfw by serial #. Just keep in mind that some modders may have changed their pc or harddrive, or they may keep poor records and are unable to locate your key. I think you should've stuck with sending your hardware out if screwed up your drive. More than 95% of the bad flashes happen when you are writing and not reading. So where is the file you "read" before your badflash?

hrmm... you want me to speculate on the likelihood of them still having your original firmware at this point ??

i'm guessing 0.00% ... why would they keep it ?? even if they had it, why would they give it to you now ? they want your $$$ they dont want your flashing the thing yourself.

yes i think this is a great warning for others that sometimes its just easier to send it off and pay someone else to do it for you . ..

IMO, a good trustworthy modder will give you the files on a cd. Also, they would back them up on another cd or 2 (like I do), as well as on every drive/partition they have in their PC.

But that's just me.

No idea if your modder would still have this or not. It just depends on your modder.
