I have a collection of '50's - '70's music video clips that are MPG format.
MediaInfo tool shows details on them the following:-
FORMAT: CDXA/MPEG-PS
Codecs Video: MPEG-2 Audio codecs: MPEG-1 Audio Layer 2
VIDEO: 2,216Kbps(8,300Kbps), 480*576 (4/3), at 25.000fps,
MPEG Video(PAL), Version 2, Main@Main
As I want the PAL format/region, I don't have to convert /encode these files at all; do I?
Sending them as they are to optical media disc/s (DVD5), via ImageBurn or some other burning software program, should produce a disc that will play in a stand alone DVD player; would that be correct??
I have about 7GB of these 3minute oldies video clips. Plan to put them all on a DL DVD9. Hopefully the easy way.

I think those are SVCD format files and it would be a coin toss as to whether a DVD player would play them (granted I am in NTSC country) but only one out of three of my players accept and play those mpeg files (burned as a data file on a DVD).
You could make a compilation using the last free version of VCD Easy and output a SVCD image file (I'm not sure, but I think forty-five minutes running time is the maximum for an SVCD) and burn the image file to CD using Imgburn.
attar, hi again. Yeah, I know what you mean about some stand alone DVD players not playing certain formats, the one I have will not play an .avi, DivX, XviD. I like the VIDEO_TS.VOB. I just thought that as MediaInfo shows the video codec as being MPEG-2 it may be a breeze to send to optical media CD/DVD because i had an .avi (DivX) that I encoded to MPEG-2 and it played on a mate's stand alone DVD player.I can't recall if it was mpeg2 that I encoded the .avi to, though I'm sure it was. I can't do a check as I left the disc at his house. have never tried to make a VCD or SVCD, though I can do so with either Nero 8 or Ashampoo Burning Studio 8. I think there's another program on the computer that will create VCD and SVCD.
What I will do is create both a VCD and SVCD and see if they play, I'm in New Zealand and we are PAL region 4 here but I have hired one or two NTSC Video DVD's that played on my stand alone DVD player. ( Hannibal Rising was one of them) Dunno why? Guy in the Video rental shop told me that they would play when I pointed out that on the back cover of the case, Region 2 was shown.
Maybe the DVD cover's artwork and info is a 'copy' of the original, as are the discs inside. Ha ha, I know that is done here at the Video Rental stores.
Anyway, for what it costs to find out if I can send these clips I have to a CD or DVD, as they are,and get a playable result, its worth a try. Encoding to DVD Video will take many hours, but if that's the only option, so be it.

ps: I just searched the net see what the reference to CDXA meant, apparently it is the original .iso9660, and CDXA/PS-MPEG is to do with splitters needed to play VCD or SVCD. Most computers and stand alone DVD players have them, as standard issue now I guess. Mine doesn't but what the heck, I know someone who has.

Sweet as. I sent the one folder of the mpg files directly to a TDK DVD-R 4.7GB and they played perfectly in stand alone DVD player.
All good.
