install to hard drive not working on any game

Hey thanks for any help in advance,
when I select install to hard drive on the 360 it only tries for like 5 seconds tops before giving me the unable to read disk may be dirty or scratched error,
now ive tried this on every game I have and the one is brand new "dead space" also tried fallout 3, oblivion and so, now I know im doing it right because I installed oblivion on my dads system no problem, the thing is that it plays all the games just fine from the disk and I know the hard drive works cause I can play the preloaded games and demos and I can download to it from xbox live just cant install from disk oh and cant rip cds either and it reads them just fine aswell and my systems fairly new just got it maybe a month and a half ago, now I am usually good with this kind of stuff but I am really stumped here if I have to return it I will just hope dont have to, so any help would be appreciated thanks.

jesus christ i saw one period in that entire sentence. its most likely your laser seeing as the games install on other systems, and you know your hard drive works. however try clearing the cache on your hard drive by following this guide.

if that doesnt fix it then you might have to try and format the hard drive all together to see if thats the issue. if that still doesn't fix it, then its probably your laser in your dvd drive.

First of all thanks for the reply, and second I like my sentences and my paragraphs to be one and the same lol, I was just frustrated.

Well I cleaned my lens earlier before posting, I forgot to mention that, but I cleaned it again for a few cycles and now its working just fine.
