this past week I bought a used PS2, the slimline version. I went with the silver version, it's quite snappy.
I bought the replacement lid for it to give that a shot last night, and upon opening it, giving it a shot, and eventually lurking around these forums, i of course found that this would not work out for. I've got a swapdisc that will do the trick, and I suppose all I need now is a magickey, or a slimtool, but I wanted to get some secondhand opinions (and advice on whether I'm on the right track or not) before I made my purchase
currently I'm leaning towards magickeys, however there's multiple versions. any thoughts? which one should I get?
hope this isn't rude but it has been a few days so I am bumping my own thread. I've browsed around other threads here but I have yet to find a direct answer to my problem.
silver slimline PS2, 79001, wants to play imports, already has a swapdisc, needs advice on which magickeys to get and where to get it.

The fliptop should work on that model,it doesn't work on the latest PS2 SCPH 9000x series.
But before you go buying swap tools, there are some 79001 models that only need to block 2 sensors.
It is just #2-disc brake & #3 - near your reset button.
Once you do this put a disc in the ps2, start it up, then lift the lid, if the disc is still spinning, you have done it correctly and no need to tape down the sensor inside.
But if you want you can buy Swap Tool Pro V3, or V4
thanks SR. I was having a quick look at it again the other night, and it definitely didn't have #1 in it so that method must do the trick. I'll either do that or maybe even just solder the points shut. I know that'll keep me from doing 2 disc PS1 games but if I ever feel the need for that I believe I have a PS1 lying around the house somewheres. thanks again for your help
thanks again for the makeshift mods SR, but I think I was actually getting somewhere with the fliptop the other night!
I opened it up and threw on the fliptop (after applying the skin I bought for it as well, looks great), and I attempted playing a US game with the flip top on. that worked great; to test it further I also opened up the fliptop while the game was running and the game kept running. perfect.
after this it didn't work again. I was there with a friend of mine and we both noted that the previous time I loaded a game on it, the original cover was still on it, and we figured maybe it was 'remembereing' how that worked with the sensors. that conclusion seemed to make some sense but it's QUITE a speculation. any ideas as to what might be up with it now? again, in summary, the fliptop worked perfect ONCE, then after that it didn't work again.
