Hi, guys! Computer crashed and we had to pick up a new one. Its an HP, but with only 1 drive bay I had to turn my Samsung internal into an external using a kit I purchased at TigerDirect. Everything seems ok, but when I plugged it in via USB - Vista can't locate drivers. I did some searching on here and couldn't see anything with a similar situation. I've found the drive on the Samsung site
but don't want to update any firmware incase I mess up Kreon.
Any ideas where to turn? Its my first computer with Vista and I think I really prefer XP.
Did the external drive enclosure come with an installation cd? Another thing with enclosures is the jumper on the drive, is must be set to either "cable select" or "master", if the drivers are not installing it could be because it isn't being correctly recognised. I've got my samsung sh-d162c in an enclosure, works fine with vista, no drivers required, so double check the jumper, try both settings, hopefully that'll solve your problem.
I am having the same problem I upgraded my computer a couple weeks ago and now can't get vista to see my shd16c drive as a dvd drive it only sees it as a cd drive. Yes I know I should have kept up with the driver disks but asfter a couple moves and 2 kids alot of things get lost. But I googled it and it seemed another guy who has the disk can't get vista to even load the dvd driver from it. So TIA....

Does that mather for your burning software, have you tried playing a DVD (maybe a movie) with it?
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.
Hmmm I have not tried playing a dvd the only reason it came up was that I could not burn a dvd with nero and then looked at the driver and it says its using a cd driver. I also updated to the newst legit samsungfirmware as well to make sure it wasn't some weird way for MS to get at hacked FW on that drive and it still had that problem. But when I get home I will try it.
I also am running a SHD162c drive with Vista, and I never had any probs changeing it over to Vista from xp.Mine comes up as DVD Drive in vista,my other is DVD Drive RW Drive.And to the poster above me you do know you can't burn with that drive right?It's just a DVD/CD reader.
