Video card or motherboard?

I have had no problems with either of them.

I will say that I have had a couple of motherboards with nVidia chipsets die "prematurely" but I didn't do a postmortem.

Some people hate 'em.

nvidia graphics cards aren't, but their motherboard chipsets are terrible. Very unreliable long term. They often run at 70ºC+ causing heat stress on other components, use as much power as Core 2 Duo processors at full load but whenever the PC is on, are notorious for causing corrupt data to the hard drives, and tend to have a very short lifespan.
The nForce 5 AMD was the last decent nforce chipset. The 650i and 680i were disgusting and the 780i was appalling as well. The 790i is better but not by much. With dual cards now available for SLI without needing an SLi motherboard, there's simply no reason to throw money away on one.
