I am working on installing a modbo 745. I have tried a couple times with partial success. I have a question about a solder point. In the diagrams it shows point S and 3.3v (slim) and SX and A for regular. On these points these points there is a component and I was unclear if i was meant to solder to the top of those or to the far side. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also I can solder vias quite well but i was wondering how much heat or how easily the heat can wreck the board or the traces. I usually dont touch the area for more than just over a second and occassionally melt the silocone.

thank you.

What is a good way to apply solder to those small points (A, SX) ? do you apply heat and add a bit of solder to it or do you put the solder on the iron first and then apply it to it? whats the best way to ensure you dont damage the component?

I resolved one of my earlier questions about the small components. you can either solder to the top of the indicated side or the far side of it.

I still have a question about how easy it is to damage an ic. If you hold the iron for too long can you screw it up? On one install i slightly burned the edge of the bios ic and didnt think it would affect it at all. The install was botched as when I turned it on the chip load screen flickered and then it went into the sony menu. Is anyone able to clarify on the sensitivity of the ics or any other part like the pads and copper traces. thanks.

Cheap chips are mostly crap, and are more sensitive. I only lifted a pad on a PS2 once, but i have accidentally removed small components. Use a 15W soldering iron, or lower. Id used some modbo 760 before and those are really thin, traces comes off easily. But 745 are thicker and seem to be higher quality but still you should be careful with it. Add flux to the S/SX pads or scrape them too. Some flux would also help with wires sticking to the pads. Solder has flux in it so it is best to not heat solder but heat the wire with solder under it. But if it seems to hard then add solder to the tip and have flux on the wire. If wires comes off eaisly then u have some cold soldering joints, also it is important to clean your soldering iron. Most people say don't heat components for more than 3 seconds, soldering to the chip shouldn't take really long and take care about that. Not exactly sure what IC u are talking about, but most could take alot of heat.

It takes me about 45min to install a chip to a slim and keeping the wires tidy, besides the V16 cause i rarely do those, and have to make sure i solder to the right one.

Heres some tips
