I've been using these for a good while now, been through tubs of 'em, but they only cost $30 for 25 dvd-rs, that's AUD$1.10 a disc.

Normally i'd expect at least a few compatibility issues or failures, but nothing, in about 200 discs.

Does anyone know what these discs are based on or how i can find out, cheers.

Hey, Mate. I was beginning to think I was only Aussie here. I've only used these disc's for movie backup but these are the results.

A friend bought a tub of 25 like you and he had all sorts of problems: the discs didn't like compression and would just lock all the time while burning. ALso he had alot of playback issues with his DVD player.

I borrowed a few and faired a bit better, I think only one disc stalled during a burn but when I tried to play them in my old philips player they would freeze up when they got to the last 15 to 20 mins of the movie. since then I have bought a sony player which they work fine on.

Both my mate and I tried these discs on quite a few other dvd players but most(nearly all) would freeze up at some point or another.

It seems you're a lucky one with a dvd player that like Laser disc's!

As for what the disc's are? I have no idea, except that someone told me that those Shintaro disc's and the Lazer's are made by the same manufacturer. But don't know if that's true or not.

You should drop in on the Afterdawn IRC channel when you're online, it'd be nice to chat to a fellow Aussie for a change.

If you don't know the IRC (I still don't!) a guide to get you started is here:

If you do the Server is irc.addictz.net
and the channel is #ad_buddies

Hope to see you there.

Cool, good to see another aussie! I have a realitevly cheap LG dvd player, one of those slim lines for less than $200 that are everywhere these daze ;) but my friend has a really cheap ROWA dvd player, it's a beast but even it plays all the dvds, including my xbox, though the xbox is a 1.0 with a thompson drive, meant to be able to read most formats, except games that is (POS).

Yeah i'll definately check out the irc channel, thanks for the guide :) it's a shame about those discs tho, oh well, maybe they'll work for me now, but find after six months the dye has decided to be a prick, lol,we'll see.

See you in irc sometime.

In case anyone was interested the dye for the Laser 4X discs is AN35, seems to be pretty common amongst the cheaper media.

G'day guys, Gordy from Port Adelaide Sth OZ here. I am using those laser 4 X discs and haven't had one DVD -R discs to burn yet. The same Laser discs in the DVD-RW category seem to be ok but the DVD-R's are no go...any one got any clues etc?

That's too bad. I use a pioneer 106d, with 1.07 hacked firmware. Nothing but success for me, xboxes, standalone dvd players etc.

I'm a fellow Aussie and I bought 2 tubs of 25 Laser DVD-r and after having about 4 of 25 work in my PS2 and all play in my LG dvd player/Liteon DVD-ROM/ Mitsubishi DVD+-RW but skip like crazy in the last 10-15mins of the movie I took back the second tub for a refund! They are not real good... No problems burning but they just dont seem to work well in any DVD player!I've since bought Verbatim Datalife DVD-r and I'm yet to have a problem.

Well I'm using Laser DVD-R's now and done another three movies tonight no problems.
I am only burning movies and not PS2 so I don't know how well they go with them.
