hi, noob here, i searched and searched google then the site but couldnt find anything. well actually i found something on google which pointed me here. well i got a RROD 360 from ebay and was able to fix it with the xclamp mod but the seller didnt include the original dvd drive, he must of swapped it out with another console. but anyways when i play a game it says to insert a 360 game or something along the lines of that. so if it isnt the original dvd drive is there anyway for me to find out what drive was originally in so i can flash the hitachi one that isnt working now? or is there no fix seeing as i cant get the original key?
First of all the laser or a mechanical part could be bad, it would give you the same message to play this game put it in an xbox console.
The best way to find out if the key from that drive matches the console is to
pull the firmware off the drive and inject the key into a working drives firmware, be sure to spoof as original target. (If the key is random numbers continue, its its full of 77's or ff's or any constant number for that matter dont waste your time.
Or if you have another working hitachi drive, just swap the PCB over to the working drive cage and test that way.
If that drive dont have the correct key its not going to read games, there is currently no way to dump the key from the motherboard without not having the key already.
if it has a different drive in it, your screwed. no if ands or butts. i would contact the seller and ask for a full or partial refund, especially if he didnt state the drive was not original in the auction.
without that original drive, you can not get the original FW and flash it to the current drive, or a new drive. i suppose though, if you were really dedicated you could buy the infectus chip and recover the drives FW from the motherboard, but it seems hardly worth it to me.

The infectus chip will do nothing for him if he doesnt already have his key.

actually, from what im reading right now, it will work.
according to an administrator at XboxHacker
"you can only get the CPU key running the kell exploit. for which you need an exploitable kernel and a working drive.
what you CAN try with the infectus is installing it on the drive, not the MB, and dump the SST chip that way, the DVD key will be in the dump. however you may be able to use the usual samsung flashing tools to dump the firmware too, without needing the chip, given no lines to the SST are damaged."
so to me, i think i was correct and the infectus will give him the key.
