Like many, many of you, I too have lost an Xbox360 to the Red Rings of Death. I made a vow to wait until a death-proof model of the 360 came out before I spent my cash again. Well, two years later, the "Jasper" model of the Xbox360 has been released and I am taking a chance. But is this THE Xbox we've been waiting for? Thats what this thread is about. Let everyone know about when you got your console, if you had any problems, if it died, and if so, how long it lasted. Thanks for your feedback!
Here are some of the facts about my console:
I purchased it on February 6, 2009 from Best Buy.
Manufacture Date: 11-11-2008.
This is the Arcade 360 that comes with "Sega Superstars Tennis", and 6 bonus games on a second disc.
Info on box: Lot No. 0846x, TEAM: FDOU, and has on the sticker "Xbox 360 Arcade SYSTEM VALUE BUNDLE 2008 E".
The power rating is 150W on the power brick.

So far, I have logged 8 hours on it with no problems whatsoever. It is much quieter than my 360 from 2 years ago, and from what I can feel, there is significantly less heat produced. I'll keep checking back in to document the life of the Jasper.

you wont see any issues on it until you have put at least 100 hours of gaming into it. it took lots of heating up then cooling down to ever mess with the other 360's

The arcade Jasper 360 also has 256 MB memory built onboard; no separate memory card. I'll be counting be using a stopwatch while the unit is powered on to record the lifespan. I will also record the ambient temperature. My place is usually kept at around 70 degrees.

I hope this one lasts longer than 100 hours. I don't think my old one even made it that far, but that one was in a 85 degree room during the summer.

I had a brand new Jasper die on me after only 2 weeks. It wasn't RRoD, but still that's not good. I'm not sure what happened, but it wouldn't boot out with either the DVD drive or HDD attached. I tried a different HDD and the same thing.

Memnok, did you replace it with another Jasper, if so, hows that one doing?

I did get another Jasper to replace it. I'm going to take it as being a fluke type thing, but it didn't leave me feeling great about the Jaspers. I've had the replacement going for a little over a week and it's been fine so far, but I'm going using a 203w power supply with it for now.

The one that broke was playing a WMV movie from a disc. The movie froze at the end. I didn't think much of it and since the was just about the end I turned it off. Then I put a game in and BAM e74 screen. After fiddling around it a bit wouldn't even give e74 screen. It just refused would boot up. I took it apart and was able to boot it out w/o the DVD drive and HDD attached. Also it did work with a memory unit and no DVD drive.

Memnock, I'm might be uninformed in this department: why switch from a 150W power supply back to a 203W for your Jasper? That sucks about your jasper360. It seems like it could have been software issue rather than hardware. I guess I won't be putting any WMV dvd's in my box.

No there should never be any problem with playing WMVs. It's I had a Falcon 360 for over a year that played them all the time from discs with no issues. I'm just sticking with the 203w power supply since I know it's not going to hurt and I have my doubts on another 150w after the e74 error which is an issue with power.

I know that with amps it doesn't matter if you input more than the system is designed for. Pushing more voltage with a 203W in a system designed for 150W in theory doesn't seem like a good idea. That could fry it. Unless, the power brick knows how much voltage it should push depending upon which system it is connected to. Since yours hasn't fried, then I guess its ok. Damn, if its not RRoD, its e74 or another problem. Well, hopefuly the Jasper can at the very least avoid the RRoD.

I have added a 60 GB hard drive, and have spent 20 hours total play time on the Jasper. No problems so far.

what are you talking about? the wattage doesn't dictate the voltage output... the amps multiplied by the voltage will yield the watts. You could put a 500watt, 1 kilowatt, a 2.5 megawatt or a 16000 jigawatt supply with tripple flux capacitors and the Jasper won't pull more than 150 watts. all the bricks output the same voltage, 12v and 5v. He is not "pushing more voltage". Using a larger rated supply does no harm at all. Think of it this way...... envision a water fall..... the force of the water upstream pushing the water over the edge and the force of gravity allowing the water to fall is the VOLTAGE. The amount or quanity of water traveling down the stream and over the edge is the AMPERAGE. Considering not all streams and waterfalls are the same size or capacity how does one calculate the quanity of water and force at which the water is delivered to the waterfall? You multiply the "amount" by the "push" and you get WATTAGE. Wattage is an means of expressing power or in my analogy the waterfall as a whole. This formula (IxA=W) is only 100% accurate with DC and a purely resistive load. More factors are inlvolved when you add reactive load (inductance, ex. transformers or motors) and capacitance (caps) and other power sources, such as alternating current. If you are interested in those formulas let me know.

Yeah I wasn't thinking clearly when I wrote that. I was thinking of volts instead of watts. Even that wouldn't make sense since there aren't any 150V, or 150 jigawatt flux capacitor 360s. My bad. My Jasper is still going strong. 35 hours of play time. I have installed my games to the hard drive via the microsoft updated dashboard to avoid laser burnout.

BTW here's an update on the problem Jasper I had. I sold it to someone as is and he told it it looked like the was a weird freak type thing that went wrong with it SATA connections.

Getting ready to make a decision to purchase one, I had a launch console (MFR Date 10-23-05) RR finally after 3 1/2 years, pretty sure RE5 killed it, I didn't turn my 360 off for over 3 days.

Any suggestions if I should wait for another model to come out, or just pick up a new Arcade Jasper?

I pre-ordered my 360 before it came out so I got one of the oldest models. It has worked perfectly the whole time, all my friends who bought theirs later have had trouble, everything from red ring to simply not reading games. The same was the case for my old xbox. A bit odd, maybe just me being lucky.

My Jasper runs pretty cool. I went ahead and upgraded the fan to a Talismoon whisper, x-clamps mod, and Arctic Silve 5 thermal paste and all that keeps it running good. I have seen a lot of RRoD consoles from people stand the console upright. I think gravity plays hell on those heatsinks and eventually causes RRoD. I have always run the console on it's side and haven't seen any issue yet.

If you really want a "death-proof" console, wait for the Valhalla. It is suppose to have the CPU and GPU integrated onto the same chip. Should be even less power consumption.
