I did search on this, but it seems to be primarily about Wii Key 1, not Wii Key 2. I don't know which advice is the same for the 2.
I recently modded my Wii with a new Wii Key 2 (yellow serial on back). I am reading online I should apply the 1.2 verion update to it, so I get the official file, burn it, load it, get the config screen, don't change any settings, insert my region (USA) disc into drive and restart device. I don't really know if it was updated to 1.2??? I did not see an option to produce the update.
Next, do I need to change my Wii System Update from 3.3 to 3.2 if I am using Wii Key 2? Most my reading indicates this for a lot Homebrew stuff and don't want to take on too much homebrew (I make beer and this is enough for now) until I am more comfortable. Also, the SDHC card won't work in the Wii!
I have 2 functional burned games which work fine, I have 3 games which have disc errors.
As for the wiikey 2 just hope it updated. Its not like the update really does all that much. I don't have a wiikey 2 myself so I don't really know but I'm sure that it works either way. And as long as the disk loaded (eg. didn't come up with a question mark) it should have worked.
Maybe I will try the twighlight hack, just so I can play around with the SD card. I returned the SDHC card and got the small one.
I was able to get Zelda and a burned-scrubbed copy seems to work fine in my Wii. I am wondering if I am having so many "Unable to read disc errors" due to my discs, not firmware issues.
Most likely. The wii's drive is very twitchy with burned disks. Not using a good brand of media or burning them too fast can result in alot of disk read errors. For best results try burning verbatum DVD-R at 4x.

You should be able to use SDHC cards though. Although you need a regular card to update.
Thanks folks. Yeah, the drive seems poor quality or has little error correction. I should not be surprised I guess. 4X does seem to work for me better and my Memorex -R discs seem to be working as well. I will keep Verbatim in mind. Due to laziness, I use Memorex since it is sold at a store less than 5 min from the house.
Maybe I will dabble with homebrew software later, and then I may need to play with my update version. I am happy to not do that for now. The Wii Key 2 Clip seems pretty good for now.
