Just picked these up tonight... I know I'm a little ahead of schedule but I thought that I would give everyone the heads up that I had success with ANYDVD and CLONEDVD.

Cheers!!!

My two cents is "Sometimes Opinions are Best Left Inside".

Same thing again, Twilight and now Seven Pounds. DVD Shrink saw it as 6707MB and that was way over into the RED again as I'm set at 4300mb. Ran it thru DVD Fab and it came out OK, its now going thru Shrink. Is this the new thing, they put in Dummy stuff to throw it all off so it will be difficult to copy it? I read that and the followwing in another Forum Roxio I believe. The producer or whomever did it this way because of the fact that a lot of the "RED DVD" rental machines are now around and they rent it for $1.00 so they were trying to prevent copying since it is so cheap to get one to copy. I don't know if these machines are outside the 'US' but they are all over where I live, one is even on the outside of a Walgreens Drug store.

watched it last night ! seems to be a Decent enough movie but slow and plodding in explaining the back story of Will Smiths character ! thats My humble opinion anyway ! On trying to Back it up with Clone & Anydvd not working right for me ? When I try to back up this movie I get The Directors comments talking over the movie and does'nt appaer to start in the right part of the movie ? The original Disc plays fine on my DVD Recorder though ! I guess This might Take awhile huh guys?

Dvd Shrink hasn't been supported in years and cannot handle newer encryptions. That's why it worked with DvdFab which is updated to tackle these new encryptions. However, using FixVts or VobBlanker after ripping, before encoding/transcoding is a recommended pratice to clean things up a bit.

i have tried DVDfab and AnyDVD. cant seem to backup properly, there still seems to be some encryption after ripping. i have backed up many dvd's old and new including transporter3 with no trouble, but Seven Pounds, Twilight, and DaVinci Code are the only ones giving me probs. SW is up to date, but still no luck!! i thought maybe the CSS removal SW wasnt completely working. Im searching around the forum here for proper procedure for these movies.... thanks for the response :D

OK, Twilight burned successfully... ClonDVD2 did the trick, still cant get DVDfab to burn a usable copy. Anyone need some coasters? LOL

Trying it now with Seven Pounds... fingers crossed

I have Any DVD but it still did not want to work in DVD Shrink so I went to DVD Fab and then to Shrink then Decrypter and it worked OK then.
In Shrink the movie show about 7GB so somehow they double it and most are probably dummies to make it difficult to copy.

thanks for the input, i think it is necessary to clean up the video_ts folder with s/w like FixVTS before DVD Shrink will procees the DVD. Trial and Error is the road to success. :) And a great forum like afterdawn.com :D

still problems with Seven Pounds... this one is stubborn!

Add me to the Success list!! finally got it using different media and ImgBurn.

Trouble with seven pounds. I used dvdfab hd (free version) then fixvts, then shrink. However before I backuped with shrink i played the preview and i got the commentators portion even though i specified main movie in dvdfab. I went back to dvdfab and played a little of the preview and it was the movie not directors section. I used imgburn to burn just to see what would happen and again the directors comments. Any ideas.

You just need to figure out how DVDFab and DVD Shrink work. They're dead easy really.
With DVDFab you can rip in full disc and main movie mode. Maybe stick to full disc for now, that way you don't have to rerip if (for instance) you end up with the director's commentary as opposed to the main movie. DVD Shrink has always been simple enough to use regardless of whether you've ripped in full disc or main movie mode, but as i say, try ripping in full disc mode until you're confident you can differentiate between main movie and director's comments/other tracks..
What you have to beware re previewing in DVDFab is that the preview plays the track that you've selected with the mouse ie it plays whichever track that is highlighted. This isn't easy to explain but what i'm getting at is that the track being previewed isn't necessarily the same track that is ticked. Try it and hopefully you will see what i mean.

I'm new to this forum.
I was wondering if anyone has had any success using DVD Decrypter for this film?

@ kronos690, the process that seems to work the best with newer DVD's is to Rip to HD with AnyDVD(this removes all CSS and ArccOS), then compress with DVD Shrink, and burn with ImgBurn. Try to use good quality media for burning too. DVD Decrypter is not neccessary... Hope this helps!! :)

Sucess. I guess I am a little late on this one. I think that I have invested enough money into my vast and ever growing DVD colection and the fact that backing them up is like an insurance policy for my movie collection and more of a hobbie for me that I like to use freeware Rippers. I just picked up Seven Pounds with some proding from my sister and I only got the dreaded cyclic reduncy check error with dVD Shrink I have good sucess with sony titles using Ripit4me one click mode and DVD Decryptor 3.5.4.0, go tools settings set everything to defaults. Then in the general tab change,"Removal Method" from normal to agressive, in file mode "tick" remove PUO'S. For ripping in the "ISO Read Mode" tick remove PUO'S there also. In the "CSS" tab under "CSS Cracking Method chose "Brute force~>I/O Key Exchange" and on failure chose "Yes" ..IMPORTANT: in the I/O tab, in the bottom right, "tick" the box wich says "ignore read errors".And I just save the Ripit4Me files to a known location on my desk top. And then with DVD Shrink open I just drag and drop the Ripit4Me file into it and then back up the file and burn it to disk with Nero9

All would have been done with..... dvdfab > vobblanker/fixvts > dvd shrink/dvd rebuilder > imgburn
