What are you using for re-encoding?

Used to use Nero 6.6. Got Vista, many aspect of 6.6 no longer work ...like nero recode. Which indeed sucks because I would use this as opposed to DVD shrink when putting a lot of compression on a movie >65% and would get better results. I would also use it for converting .vob to .mp4.

Any recommendations for replacing nero 6.6? Don't want to spend $50 on Nero 9, considering I would only be using it for re-encoding.

Dvd Rebuilder, though it take a little bit longer, is a much better alternative for higher compression than Shrink or Recode.

I agree plus those other softwares do not re-encode. They transcode. Not the same as re-encode.

Does dvd rebuilder re-encode to any of the following formats: avi or mp4 , xvid.

DVD Rebuilder Pro does DVD to AVI.

I downloaded "SUPER" off afterdawn and it rules. Its free. It did very high quality recodes from dvd to avi. There are a ton of other formats to choose from.

I have not yet played with reencode dvd to dvd but I'm sure its possible. However, there would be extra steps involved.

All in all, this does 98% of what I was looking for.
