Hi,
dvd shrink and Nero 8 and 9 do not work together. If you try to use them together, the end result is what you see.
Few years ago when I started backing up my DVD?s, my stand-alone DVD player had hard times to play my backups, even there is no problem playing original DVD?s. Back then, my choice of media and burning speed etc, might cause the problem. But also my SONY DVD player was quite old (It was top-of the-line when I purchased.). I believe those old players were not made to read those recordable DVD and tested with. My other (newer and cheaper) player seems having less problem playing my backups.
Above is just my experience. It must not be true for everyone.
Though, are any of those players you checked newly manufactured? (At least in last few years.)
You may want to check your quality of your recordings too. (I do not have much experience here. So search ?Nero CD-DVD Speed? in this forum?)
I had that problem years ago, back when I thought all dvd-rw drives were alike. That's a compatability issue and the backup disc has been verified ok because the pc plays it and it should play it to near perfection.
Here's the most usual culprits for stand alone player compatability:
1) Quality media. It critical and can prevent a lot of playback issues now and later.
2)Booktkype the plus format media to dvd-rom.There is a huge difference between dvd-rw drives and some put out very low compatable backups despite using the best media on earth.
3)Correct format when using quality media. For newbs at dvd backups and unsure of what quality of dvd-rw drive you have.Try both plus and dash format media.Test backups of each format on all drives that you will be playing backups in.
Rule of thumb for newbs:
Booktyping drives like Benq,Plextor,LG,Liteon-use plus format and then set it to be booktyped.Booktyping the plus format to dvd-rom tricks picky players into thinking they are dvd-rom format, just like the originals are. Superior stand alone player compatability.
4) Burn half the rated speed. 16x media, burn 4x-8x. Test in the drives that you plan on playing your backups in.Run some scans on them with programs like Nero's quality disc scan and see how they score. Keep burn speed at whatever nero shows the highest score. Switching brands,do that process all over again.
5) No sticker labels, NO sireeee! Sharpies will do nicely.
6) Older pc with low resources: Don't multitask during the dvd backup process.
If none of the above fixes that compatability issue, then look at:
7) Burn engine- try another because picky stand alone players can tell a difference.
8) Keep HD/S defragged regularly.
9) Update the firmware of your dvd-rw.Firmware controls the writing strategy,so it tells your drive how to properly burn your blank discs.
Now if all those fail, then you're looking at 2 things. If the issue is narrowed down to 1 player, then open up that drive and clean the laser lens.If that's no option, run a cleaning disc. Those cleaning discs have been known to ruin drives,so use it as a last resort. Last option would be drive replacement. Usually the $20 el cheapo players play everything you slap in them.
