What is the best in terms of quality and success rate?
I use Xvid4psp, the older 4.x version, and it is just a lesson in complete frustration. 2 out of 10 videos won't convert. I convert lots of FLV files. Some of them just give errors, and many of them get to 98.8% completion and stop there to never finish. Version 5 is even worse. I installed it on 3 different occasions on 2 different computers and it failed at converting any videos each time. I uninstalled .NET 2.0 service pack because i read about it causing problems.
PSPVideo9 fails just as often. I don't use any weird settings on either converters.
I have K-Lite codec pack on the computers. One computer is a fresh windows install and has K-Lite, SP3, .NET 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5.
Are there better converters? I'll pay for it if they are for sure going to be better and more reliable than these free ones.

Super - its free. For best results you need a good quality movie to convert, I always convert from a vob file, .avi seem to give me lip sync errors.
I use DVD shrink (again free) to get the movie to the hard drive (by altering a preference you can get the movie as a single vob - not in parts), then super to convert it - works great!

I used PSP Video Express 1.0, its a great avi to psp converter since its fast and the quality is good too. If you have KLite codecs installen on your machine then it also converts any subtitle on the movie.

Lol u noobs, as if u install k-lite. Combined Community Codec Pack!
But anyway I use pspvc for my mkv anime files so i can choose to include the subs from the mkv itself as well as audio track. It also encodes in h264 avc and the sharpness is amazing. And for just plain avi files i use 3gp convertor. Nothing beats it in speed and cpu usage (it doesnt use very much)
PsP PhaT (+[__]%) 1.50 - 3.40 OE-A - 3.52 m33 - 3.52 m33-4 - 3.90m33-3 - 5.00m33-6
