ImgBurn 2.4.2.0 Question and CD-RW Disc

Hi:
Trying to Write Files/Folder to Disc. I have two AVI files that I do not want to author for VOB-structure. I want to play a DVD-RW disc on a stand-alone DVD player that is Xvid compatible. I drag the two AVI files into the ImgBurn window and get, "Failed to Reserve Track. Reason: Cannot Write Medium. Incompatible Format".
Please help with settings. I tried Nero but the DVD-RW disc plays flawless audio but the video keeps freezing. A Forum member suggested ImgBurn, but I have never used the software.

Please explain: I bought a few Memorex DVD-RW discs. I need to "change media" meaning the disc is bad or the quality of the brand chosen does not allow burning?

Well, despite your opinion of the media I am using, I did a GOOGLE search on my issue and came across some advice: "Use a third-party utility to ERASE the DVD-RW completely (not a fast erase) and re-try IMGBurn". I downloaded and installed DVDInfoPro-Extreme and it took 25 minutes to ERASE the disc. I started another instance of ImgBurn and here is the Log. By the way, the disc works, as advertised, in my Philips stand-alone DVD player. Both AVI files that I burned play flawlessly.

I am not looking for a pissing match. I started a thread asking how to use ImgBurn when I was getting the error message as desribed previously. I posted a follow-up describing a work-around. The bottom line, for me, is my question has been answered and my DVD-RW disc plays in a stand-alone player.
You don't seem interested in the merit of my issue nor its resolution, just in telling me twice now that the media is crap.

The DVD-RW disc is a rewritable version of the DVD-R designed for sequential recording of video files. Although a DVD-RW can be used for data recording, the data accumulate the same way video files do--one after another. One cannot erase a file and get back any capacity as one could with a floppy disc, a DVD+RW, or a ram.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">DVD-RAM. Erasing only eliminates the file address. (That's why you had to do a full erasure over the entire surface of the disc. A "quick" erasure only wipes out addresses, not the files or the file format.)
I don't know why the original problem started because I am not familiar with the software you used, but a common occurrence with rewritable media, particulaly CD-RW discs, is that packet-writing software immediately tries to format a rewritable disc when one is placed in a drive. That format structure can then prevent files from being properly recorded. That's probably why you got the message: "Cannot Write Medium. Incompatible Format." The tip about fully erasing the disc and then rewriting to it may have taken that problem into account by fully erasing any pre-formatting on the disc. (Your Philips video recorder may do the same thing, but with video formatting, which would not be a problem if you want to record only video. However, if you wanted to record data, the video format on the disc might interfere. One way around the problem is to use DVD+RW discs whose format is designed for both video and data recording.)
The original, ungrammatical answer you received is a common one on this site. Certain brands receive immediate blame for all problems, even for computers that don't work when they are unplugged. Different sites have different preferences, so it is not true that the brand you are using is denigrated at all sites. Since you have found a workable solution, you can stay with the discs you have.

I appreciate your thoughtful response to my issue. It is nice to be able to burn AVI files (recorded TV shows) and watch several on a stand-alone DVD player without having to spend hours converting to VOB-file format. I did not realize that my Philips DVD player was able to play AVI files until perusing this Forum, so I have much to be thankful for.
