Media problem or firmware update?

I was wondering if there is any firmware ( or drivers ) issued for the new USB 2.0 LITE-ON External DVDRW LDW-851S VGSO8 burner and where I can download it from?
Detail about this burner are listed on the Pacific Digital page http://www.pacificdigital.com/products/8xdualdvdUSB.asp

Also I am having trouble burning with the above DVD -R / +R burner. I can burn using DVD -RW media but can't burn using DVD -R disks.

Would good advice be for me to use only DVD +R media or some other solution. Maybe my burner program settings need to be changed. I have tried using Nero Ultra 6...EzyCD creator, CloneDVD, AnyDVD and Shrink and the results are still the same, I can only burn using DVD -RW media.

PS..I gather you see I am a novice at this

I had the same problem with my HP 300I, Hp helped me by doing these steps

1) Uninstall the software for the burner
2) Reinstall the software for the burner
3) UPGRADE your firmware
4) MAKE SURE TO RESTART PC after Firmware Upgrade

I hope this helps, I know how fustrating this was.

Hey thanks for taking your time out to respond to me...much appreciated.

I have done exactly that especially updating my firmware ( a couple of weeks back ) etc.

Working ok now and very happy with things.

Hi: I have wasted at least 15 DVD disks trying write to Memorex+R disks. I have a LiteOn DVD player and an HP300n DVD writer. I would place the original disk into the player and a blank disk into the Hp burner. I am using DVD Xcopy Xpress. After so many failures I finally placed the original disk into the Hp burner. The program read the disk and then asked for a blank disk. I placed the blank disk into the HP burner and it wrote to it. It appears that there is some lebvel of incompatibilty between the LiteOn and the HP300n or the Xrpess software. Anyhow, finally it is working

Yep, takes a little figuring out these little quirks but my liteon DVD 8x external is finally churning out discs withy only one here and there refusing to co-operate.

I wasted a lot of discs in the beginning but now using Nero Ultra 6 DVD copy and works well. I still cant get it to work with CloneDVD though.

It has been better since I updated the firmware I must say.
