I downloaded a DVD to my harddrive with DVD Shrink (at 1:1), and then converted the vob files by renaming the file extensions to .mpg - for a lossless 'no compression' conversion, retaining the highest picture quality.

I was hoping to then edit a few of the action sequences into clips that I'd save on my computer.

However, I when I play the new .mpg files in Windows Movie Maker to cut/edit the clips out, a strange thing happens. About half way through the .mpg files - the movie suddenly speeds up, as if I had hit the Fast Forward button.

Does anyone know why this is happening? And how I can bring the .mpg files back down to normal speed? I found that even when I cut out a sequence, that new clip still plays at double-speed.

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions on this.

Are you converting the VOB files to a single, large mpg using a program like 'VOB2MPG' before importing it into Movie Maker?

No. After I used DVD Shrink to download the film onto my harddrive, I went into the VIDEO TS file folder that was created. I found seven files on the movie itself, with file names like:
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
I moved these files from the VIDEO TS folder into a new desktop folder, and then renamed the file extensions to the .mpg extension.

This is when the files began acting odd. When I brought them up in RealPlayer, or when I imported the file into Windows Movie Maker, every time, about 1/2 way through, the movie would suddenly speed-up as if I had clicked Fast-Forward.

I obviously did something wrong in this . . I just cannot figure out what it is; and how to correct it.
