Its my understanding in a hardware modded Wii, firmware updates are fine, so long as you make sure you're getting the correct one for your region. I have a question pertaining to games that require and have firmware updates on them.
Lets say for example I have a USA Wii, firmware 3.4u. Lets say I have a PAL game that requires firmware 3.3. Will the PAL game requiring at least 3.3 see that I have 3.4u and try to overwrite that with 3.3p? Or does it see I have a higher version regardless of region and allow me to play the game?
....It wont ask you to downgrade your Wii from 3.4 to 3.3 regardless of what region the game or update is. Besides, if you want to run import games on your Wii, its best to use Brick Blocker and RegionFrii to ensure that all the updates are stripped clean....this is all the necessary precautions to ensure you dont get a brick....
Why is that necessary though? If you update manually, no game is going to then want to update the firmware correct? The only danger is if a new game comes out with a new update? I'm merely asking and trying to better understand how this all works.
Also lets say I have 3.2u, and a game I'm playing has 3.3p on it. Will the game automatically attempt to install the updated firmware, bricking my Wii, or does it at least ask me before doing so?
From my understanding, no game out currently will auto update firmware. It will always ask you if you want to update. If you choose to proceed and update your wii with a pal disc and your wii is a different region, it will brick. But I have never heard of any game starting an update without the user telling it to.
