Ok my buddy and I started a pc and electronic repair biz a year ago and we were just given two xbox360s for free, the first system turns one and lets u go threw the menu but when u put in any disk it always comes up as being unreadable, the second system puts out audio but no video but starts games and can read them. so my thought was the second system had some thing wrong with the board and would not be as easy to fix, so i tryed putting the second systems diskdrive into the first system, and when I did That it read the disk and thought it was a dvd showing the "please insert disk into a xbox360 to play disk." I can provide pics if needed.

well sir, i don't know how to help you except maybe teach you how to spell. providing pics might help, but probably not. do you know if the xbox's were tampered with by the previous owners? and you say you switched the DVD drives? yea, that's not going to work unless they are the same type of drive, even then it might not work. if you dont know how to fix any of this stuff, then why did you start a repair business. did you take classes in electronics? maybe you should be finding this stuff out from a professional or from a professor in idk say a college. i could rant on for hours but i have better things to do. one more thing, don't get mad at me either cause now you have 2 posts and your thread is back at the top of the list.

Don't be so quick to judge Goombah. People here have been spoon feeding you answers in your Lite-ON thread you started. And now that one is up to 40 posts and I still don't think you have solved your problem.

that and you can replace a 360 drive with any other 360 drive, it just requires some spoofing, so get your facts straight before you start telling someone they are stupid.

f*** off goombah nobody likes you your an idiot. If you were so smart then you'd know that any xbox 360 drive would work as long as you know what to do with them. If you do not have anything useful to say then do not post at all. Anyways, with the one that has a disk read error do not replace the drive with the drive from the other xbox console. The process in which you need to go through to do that is much too time consuming for someone who is unfamiliar with it. Simply clean the laser of the original drive and if that does not work buy one from gbay, just make sure its from the same model. With the one that displays no video, check to see if its still under the 3 year warranty by calling M$ and see if the warranty sticker is still on it. If it does not have a sticker, you can, once again, buy one from gbay. If its not under warranty, look up the ANA chip fix method. Supposedly when this fix needs to be done, the screen flickers rapidly and lines show up sporadically, so i suppose your problem could be similar. If that doesn't work try the xclamp fix (I'm not positive whether the gpu could be the cause of this problem or not so someone else should approve).

matt,

You have the right idea. You want to use the good drive in the good console. If the drives are the same model and version, then you can just swap the pcb's. If the drives are different models, then you want to spoof the good drive to work with the good console.

What you want to do is search "how to swap xbox 360 drives" and "how to spoof xbox 360 drives". There's also some good tutorials here http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/index.php

And it's not hard to do if you've got a little pc knowledge. The simple fact is why it's so hard for some people is that there's so many different tutorials available. And 2/3's of them are written by boobs.

yea, but why would swapping the drives and flashing the keys be necessary? Its a disc read error. usually when its that all you have to do is clean the laser or just replace it. Hes obviously not very experienced with flashing, and learning how to do it can be very time consuming and frustrating. Wouldn't it be much easier for him to just replace the laser? After all, the OSI model says physical first.

I was expanding on the process he already started and was looking for assistance with. You've already mentioned cleaning the laser. Why would I need to reiterate that?

I would think that if him and his friend were up to the task of pc repair, then it wouldn't be any problem for them to atleast read about what they are attempting to do, then make a decision for themselves.

Some may find it "very time consuming and frustrating"; others can grasp it quite well. People don't take classes for Xbox 360 repair. Everyone starts from square one. Their success just depends on their patience and willingness to try... and, of course, knowing all of their available options.
