I am in dire need of help, please can someone assist with the following.

Using DVDXCopy 3.2.1 I've successfully ripped the Underworld DVD to my hard drive using the advanced part of the program. Upon trying to burn the data to DVD it simply won't work. It tell's me that the data cannot be burnt to DVD and that I should refer to the log. Here is what the log tells me:-

Generating Compression Settings for 1 titlesets.

Total Sectors: 3947024 Overall Compression Pct: 57.9126

Titleset 1: 57 % Size: 3947024
Compressed Titleset 1: 57 % Size: 2249803 (4,607,598,080)

Total Compressed Sectors: 2249803 (4,607,596,544)

-- Single Disc with Compression --
>> Titleset Compression 1: Size: 2249803 (4,607,596,544)
Done Reading..
Load burn engine.
0040B4F0: New BLANK or ERASABLE DVD media has been inserted - progress is the media change count, starting from 1:
Writing Disc: UNDERWORLD
0040B4F0: Gathering file from the path passed
0040B4F0: Finished.
0040B4F0: Files are too big to fit on a DVD+/-R(W):
0040B4F0: Ready To Write.
0040B4F0: Found Media.. lets write

And there is nothing more in the log but that. I've attempted this 3 times with the same result every time. On the last attempt, I took the files and tried to burn them via Nero but apparently the data is just too big to fit onto a DVD. I thought the idea was to compress the DVD enough to fit it onto a DVD. My other copies worked fine, this is the first problem i've had, can anybody help, please? Cheers.

Hi Gandalf20,

It looks like you reached the compression limit for that program at 57.9126%, so after being compressed the maximum amount, they are still to big.

Seeing that they are in a compressed form on your hard drive, you may want to try Nero Recode, that should compress them a bit more to fit and Recode will burn them as well.

However...

I would just use Shrink and Nero to burn the main title only, These compression amounts are too large for a quality copy.

Cheers,
Frank

Ok, I've got DVD Shrink 3.1 and i'm looking at the compression rates right now, i'm slightly baffled as to what I should be doing. How do I copy the movie alone onto another DVD using DVD Shrink?

Thanks.

ok, i've used the Re-author tool and i'm now looking at the main title alone with the compression rate of 61.4% at 3,702MB. I'm not sure what way the compression rate works, the lower the better? or the higher the better?

I'm also looking at 3 currently selected audio tracks for the title. They are as follows:-

AC3 5.1-ch English - 395MB
AC3 2-ch English -169MB
AC3 2-ch English -169MB

One of those tracks are the commentary track but how do I find out which is which?

Hi again,
Shrink cannot burn by itself, you need another program to do that with. I recommend getting the 30 day Demoversion of Nero 6.
Once that is installed, DVD Shrink will use the Nero program to burn with, you shouldn't have to open Nero.

There are a couple of free programs that will burn DVDs, one of them is Burnatonce for -R media only.
I have heard that DVD Decrypter can burn Shrink 3.1.6 created video files, but I haven't tried it yet

With Shrink, 100% compression means no compression so the higher the number the less compression.

To select audio tracks, start the preview window then right click on it. Select "audio" from the menu and you can listen to each available track by clicking on the one you want to hear.
5.1 is usually the correct one, but by listening to it and then checking the corresponding box, you can be sure. leave the other boxes unchecked as well as the sub-picture boxes, this will reduce your compression further.

With compression number lower than 85% or so I would use the "deep analysis" function to improve quality.

DVD Shrink and Nero work very well together. I'm able to place my original disc into one drive and blank into my burner drive and then have DVD Shrink recode it, place it in a temp file and then burn it using nero in one step. Cool.
Nero does cost money but it is WELL worth it. Supports both my DVD Burner and CD Burner drives.

Platinum 3.2.1 comes with Express as well, unless you insist on the extras use Express it should do the job.
