Hitachi 47 freezing windows

Long story short, I have 3 "parts" 360s two of which appear to have broken drives and one RROD with what should be a good drive. The good drive is a hitachi 47DJ, and I'm trying to flash it with a key from one of the other 360s so I have a modded spare. I got it into modeB with the wire trick, but whenever it's plugged in to my SATA card windows freezes up. As soon as I unplug it windows resumes working fine. the drive does this to windows whether or not it's in modeb, and while powered by different 360s as well. Has anyone encountered this before?
