Hi all.
I have a Acoustic Solutions personal dvd player. PDVD309.
It sometimes gives me the message, 'codec not supported' when I try to play a Avi. I get sound, no Video.
As an instance, I watched a Derren Brown T.V. show on it, but another Derren Brown show wouldn't play.
To my eyes the files look exactly the same, both avis'.
If I go to properties and summary, the one that plays says it is Xvid, the one that doesn't says it is DivX.
I take it that my pdvd does not have the DivX codec and it cannot be added?
I have looked for a tut on here to convert the files but so far have only seen converting DivX to DVD. I don't need the quality as it is just for play on my pdvd, I want speed.
I shall keep looking, in the meantime can someone point me in the right direction?
Cheers
BTW, to the powers that be, would it not be better to have the 'e-mail notifications' box checked by default? If you forget then you miss any replies. Just my thought :-)

Before recoding the file, try the 'FourCC Changer' program.
On a copy of the file, type in the new codec information.
The change is only applied to the file header and takes effect immediately.
Note the lower and upper case in the respective boxes.

It appears to have worked, I have tried one avi and it plays fine.
Thanks a bunch for that attar, I thought I was going to have to spens an age converting.
Just one thing, how does it work? Does it just fool the player?
Cheers

It works if all the player cares about is reading what it wants to see in the header of the file.
Sometimes there's a problem with the file and it doesn't help.
Note that some players want to see 'DivX' in the header.

Ahh, good point, so I may change the header from DivX to xVid and a player that WOULD have played it now wont.
Thanks again.
