I built a DIY flashing device to get the key from a lite-on drive, and the resistors all have the gold band furthest from the transistor. Testing the connections with a multimeter all worked, and there are no bad solder points. For reference I am using a 2N2222 transistor, the correct resistors, and a molex connector for the 5v from my computer. Serial connection to my computer, and a ground from pin 5 to the xbox chassis. Also I'm using XP 32-bit with a Gigabyte P35 board, with an ICH9 chip. Interestingly, I am getting 3.3v between the pins on my serial connection, and 0v when I use the probe on the drive. Shouldn't I be getting 5v on those serial connections?
Anyway, I can't get the key in the first place. I'll go step by step through what I did, after reading various tutorials.
1. Connect dvd to SATA and power from Xbox
2. Power on PC, boot, power on xbox
3. Open DVD drive using switch on Xbox motherboard, on the front where the tray's eject button would work.
4. Take out power cable from xbox to dvd, push drive in about halfway, plug power back in
5. Open Jungleflasher/Xtractor, it finds the dvd drive, insert probe into R707
Now when I select get key or whichever, I get an error for a bad serial. Now, I get the same error if I do nothing and just press get key without inserting the probe, so I think there might be a problem with the probe but I was using a safety pin and that should be thin enough to get into that hole.
This is also a Jasper Xbox arcade model. Is there any danger of my bricking this drive as long as I don't plug in the power cable backwards and follow directions when flashing? What can I do to troubleshoot this thing? This is my first time attempting a flash.
and ive never heard of a success with p35 boards using onboard sata. i would use dvdkey32 to get the key, ive used that to get the key on several lite-ons and never had a problem with it.
