Hi all I have been searching for quite some time now but am really confused. I just reformatted my hard drive and am looking for software that I should be reinstalling. I have looked at the codecs packs and other programs and I am not sure of which ones. Is there a should have list of programs that is recommended to have on ones system,By the Afterdawn gods. :) I really don't want to put programs on the computer that will conflict with each other or programs that do the same thing . I do have some programs. Like convxtodvd, dvddecrypter, dvdshrinks, quicktimelite and avi to dvd. If there is a post could someone please direct me ot it. If not could someone please help. P.s. I hope this is posted in the correct place.

As you never stated exactly what it is you plan on doing, it is hard to give you anything specific to your needs. However, if you will click on the second link in my signature, it will provide you with a great place to start.

dvdshrink 3.2 (free version) to shrink DVD's files and backup to ISO
fixvts (to fix video_ts files that won't play correctly)
dvdfabhddecryter (free version) to rip dvd's
avidemux (free) to edit avi's /join avi's/ crop avi's
fairuse wizard lite (free) to turn dvd ISO into a avi (xvid or h264)
vlc or gomplayer (free) to playback your dvd's or avi files
dvdflick (free) to convert your avi's into dvd's.

Theres other programs that I have but are paid software that are indespensible to me

videoredotvsuite (paid) use to frame accurate edit mpegs (remove commercials) and also to edit an entire dvd movie without reencoding.
convertx2dvd (paid) use to turn widescreen avi into a fullscreen dvd (something the free dvdflick cannot do)
nero (oem version came with my dvd burner) use to burn dvd's ISO etc.

I have all these installed and none of them conflict with each other.

Are you sure that DVDFlick cannot do this? I have never felt the need to convert, but the option is there to output either to 16:9 or 4:3.

Thank you for your reply. I use some of the programs for converting different file's like avi, mkv. and others to dvd format And sometimes trying to put the sound back in sync with the movie. I mainly use decrypter to backup my kids movies. they are kind of rough on them.

Thanks for the quick reply again
