Hi everyone this will be my first attempt at building a pc. All i need the pc for is

1. internet surfing
2. watching HD or Blue ray movies downloaded of the net on
my 50 inch Panasonic plasma TV.

Here is my list of components , need advice for any changes or any other items to add
all help and advice is appreciat



MOB = ASUS M3A78 Pro AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

CPU = AMD Phenom 9600 Agena 2.3GHz Socket AM2+ 95W Quad-Core
Processor Model HD960ZWCGDBOX

Power
supply = CORSAIR CMPSU-400CX 400W ATX12V V2.2

RAM = CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800

I use a e6600 core 2 duo and its powerful enoff to do blu ray no problems.. have a ati 4850 and 4870 crossfired right now (even the 4670 got more power then needed)

Remeber.. video card MUST be HDCP compliant Same with the moniter or it will not play back.. No vga conection alloud Dvi or hdmi or it doesnt work as well... and alot of programs that come with blu ray player for pc suck use powerdvd 8 make sure you can do a rez on the moniter of 1920x1080 me I have a 24 so its 1920x1200..

Phenoms are slow and expensive, and gobble power like you wouldn't believe. A far better choice would be a Core 2 Duo E5200 and Gigabyte EP43-UD3L board. Much cheaper, and it will do the same job. You wil however need a graphics card with this system (and you probably would with the other one as well, onboard graphics don't do too well with BluRay). This one should do you fine:

You can leave the RAM and Power supply the same, but what about:

CD/DVD Drive?
Hard drive?
Case?

That's because a 2.66Ghz Core 2 Quad strip the pants off a 3Ghz Phenom II. There's a lot more to processors than just clockspeed, and for a member of your experience, I'm frankly amazed you don't know that.
