Hey all. I had a quick question regarding backup games. Currently I have a flashed BenQ drive 360 with the iextreme 1.5 firmware. I also have a second flashed BenQ drive 360, but with iextreme 1.4 firmware. Both drives read my backups fine, however they load a bit slower than my originals. For some games, the difference is negligible, but others have significant problems.

For example, Last Remnant, the opening cinematic stutters and skips whereas my original does not. For the game Pure, most of it runs fine, but during some movies the audio stutters. Lastly, for Fallout 3, the game in general loads slower, from entering and exiting the Pip Boy to loading between areas.

After doing some research online, it seems the problem lies with the BenQ drive. Multiple people reported having similar speed issues when reading backups, yet originals loaded at the proper speed.

So I am thinking of getting a new Xbox 360 with a Lite-On drive, assuming it reads backups better. Can anyone comment, if they've compared original load speed to backup load speed?

Also, I do not how to do any modding or anything myself, so replacing the drive with something else is unfortunately not an option.

i dont notice it on my lite-on, but i have all my games that do a lot of loading on my hard drive. i have a samsung 360 and a benq around that i can test to see if they load slower, but i think its usually media related. the 360 drive works harder to read burned media as opposed to a retail copy of a game.

That would be fantastic if you could give me some sort of feedback on all 3 drives, it'd be great to know which has the best load time for backups. Or, if there really isn't much difference, that'd be good to know as well to put my mind at ease.

Of course, if it's too much trouble, don't go out of your way on my account. Thanks for the info you've shared thus far.

how about you just eliminate the issue of putting strain on the dvd drive by loading it on your hdd?

Well I wouldn't mind doing that, save for the fact that I know some games perform worse when installed to the HDD, Halo 3 for example. I am not sure how many games this applies to though.. do most see beneficial results from loading it on the HDD? I guess I'd rather solve the problem from the source, if at all possible.

uh...

I would say almost ALL games will load better (at the very least the same) with really the only exception being Halo 3. And the reason for that is how the game was developed, and how it is to distribute memory to reduce load times. It was designed without the option of being able to load the game on the hdd.

So if you want to fix the issues, load it on the hdd
