is orb safe for streaming video and audio files? winamp remote seems to be the same as orb, but can this be considered file sharing or anything like that in nature? otherwise can it be considered illegal in anyway?

Yes, it's perfectly safe. A reputable company who have been around a long time. There's an iPhone app in the Apple Store for it.

I use it on my N95 to stream stuff from my PC all the time when i'm out and about. It is exceptional.
