Its the earlier model, w/ no HDMI output. RROD and x-clamp failed, now I have a new MS sticker, would it be worthwhile to try it? I have heard that they just simply switch these on to verify RROD and replace them completely, what do you guys think? Yes, the chassis was drilled to accommodate the bolts.

even if they reuse the chassis and stuff do they do it right then? or do they see he has rrod and throw his console in the "bone pile" and then ship a replacement. if they do an inspection on the original then no this wouldnt work. im curious about this, tempted to send in a xclamp fix just to see

Yeah, how can they reuse the case if its not HDMI and they replace all w/ HDMI?

some systems dont have HDMI, as in if u send a system to them that doesnt have it they are going to send u one back that also doesnt have it....they are not going to upgrade you for free

Okay that does make more sense than the rumors I've been hearing. Guess I'll just send it in for a reflow then.

they dont reflow . they will take ur box and u will never see it again.. they will send u a different system. if they made u wait till they repaired your exact box it would be a long wait

I've had come back
- same console, same mobo, same drive
- same console, same mobo, different drive
- same console, different mobo, same drive (same version atleast)
- same console, different mobo, different drive
- different console, same mobo, different drive
- different console, different mobo, different drive
By same or different console, I mean the serial number. When I send one in to the repair center, I put a small dot with a felt tip pen next a cap on the board. I do it everytime. That way I know whether I get a different board or not.
I've had 2 consoles shipped back to me literially the same day the repair center got them, and a few spend the entire 3 weeks at the repair center. The rest, on average, only sit at the center for a week.
If you send it in I think it's just going to depend on whether they are ahead or behind on repairs.

Well hell its worth a shot I guess then. Yeah, I know MS doesn't reflow, that would be too intelligent. Should I even bother restoring original FW on the drive at this point? Would it make a difference in the grand scheme of things?

sorry i probably should have worded differently, MS probably does reflows but if it is anything like the repair process at similar repair centers for laptops and such then they usually strip the boards of any thing that can be removed and send it to a dept that does nothing but rework old boards and such and then when they are fixed they are reassembled into working consoles again and those are what is sent out as replacements. so i meant they dont really reflow on the spot and send u back the same unit. but i would try , worst case is they send ot back to you unrepaired. i dont know if they check dvd drive fw when they recieve it or not. i have heard ppl sending in modded systems and get back replacement of course that isnt modded
