So i went to BB and requested information about iPhone. I was told i have to sign a contract, pay a deposit because of my shit credit, and then pay 70 dollars a month for 2 years. I wasn't impressed.
My plan was to buy the 199 iPhone 3G 8gb, take it home and use it for video, pictures, games, some apps, and WiFi internet access. Then when i was ready to pay for phone and 3G service, i'd just say 'hey, i'm ready!' Got a big ol' F-YOU on that one.
I'd like to use the iPhone for video, photos, gaming, misc apps, wifi internet. I don't need 3G yet, but eventually i would when i start working within a new industry sometime this year.
Here are my questions.
1. Can i find a new iPhone without signing a contract?
2. If it isn't activated, will the system be locked from using it as a multimedia device and internet device?
3. If i find one that is 'jailbroken', does that mean i can use any voice/3G service including the native AT&T and all apps?
4. If i buy an iPhone and sign a contract, will my iPhone lock up on me when my 2 year service is up, or if i cancel service? or would i still be able to use wifi and multimedia functionality?
5. Should i sign a contract, or get jailbroken? Pros and Cons?
6. Is it easy to unlock myself if i don't get one that is already unlocked? I do use custom firmware on my PSP which i took care of myself, and seemed fairly easy. I wonder if doing the same for the iPhone is more difficult.
I don't really expect anyone to take time to answer these questions, but if you do, a huge thanks in advance. I just don't want to pay hundreds for a device in which i am told how i can and can't use the damn thing when i paid for it out of my pocket.
